Redskins cornerback Josh Norman exited Washington’s Week 7 matchup against the Detroit Lions with a concussion.

The Washington Redskins spent $36.5 million in guarantees to ink Josh Norman to a contract, and it has been money well spent so far.

After being the best cornerback in the NFL in the 2015 season and playing in a Super Bowl (shutting down Demaryius Thomas in the process), cornerback Josh Norman has picked up where he left off in 2016. Paired with another star in Bashaud Breeland, Norman has been among the elites again this year. He had eight passes defended through the first six weeks of the regular season.

Norman has been by far the best player on the Redskins defense, but they were forced to finish out Sunday’s close battle against the Detroit Lions without him.

Norman was ruled out in the third quarter with a concussion and it appears that he suffered it when battling with Marvin Jones for a deep pass. Jones won out with a 52-yard gain, but the Redskins had suffocated the Lions best playmaker to that point, holding him to one catch for nine yards before his amazing reception.

Let’s hope Norman is okay, because concussions are scary and difficult to project. The Redskins have a big Week 8 battle with the Cincinnati Bengals coming up and Andy Dalton had no problem hitting up A.J. Green and Brandon LaFell for big plays on Sunday.

Breeland has been surprisingly poor this season, so hopefully he can step up his game for however long Norman is out. Even when Breeland isn’t at his best, you can’t forget that he has the playmaking ability to make something special happen.
