Carolina Panthers receiver Ted Ginn Jr. showed absurd amounts of awareness to drag his feet on a deep touchdown catch.

Luke Kuechly was cursing, James Bradberry was hanging his head, and the Carolina Panthers were left without points after Bradberry’s dumb penalty got a Kuechly blocked kick return called back. Rather than having six points, Carolina had the ball possibly even out of field goal range. With under 30 seconds left in the first half, it looked to be a costly penalty. Then Ted Ginn Jr. got involved and made Bradberry much less of a goat.

On the first play after the blocked kick and called-back return, Cam Newton quickly diagnosed the coverage of the New Orleans Saints and saw Ginn going deep. With the speed of the veteran wideout, Newton saw he was matched up with a linebacker and was going to get behind the safeties.

Ginn indeed succeeded in doing that while also burning Craig Robertson. However, the throw was right at the back of the end zone. Though Ginn brought the ball down and fell out the back of the painted area, the throw was initially ruled incomplete. And in real-time, it looked that way. Upon further review, though, Ted Ginn Jr. made an absolutely absurd play. Somehow while going at top speed, he had the wherewithal to be able to drag his feet/legs in bounds while making the catch. After the review, six points for Carolina:

Hats off to Newton for recognizing that coverage and taking the shot. But my word, what a catch by Ginn. Even more impressive is that was his first touchdown of 2016 after having 10 last year. Not a bad way to get the ball rolling with your first of the year.
