Seattle Seahawks rookie running back C.J. Prosise has been a revelation, and he and Thomas Rawls could end up forming the league’s best backfield tandem.

Before Thomas Rawls returned, C.J. Prosise earned major touches in the Seattle Seahawks big Week 10 matchup with the New England Patriots. Seattle won and Prosise did not disappoint. Not only did the rookie back gain some tough yardage in between the tackles against Matt Patricia’s defense, but he also showed why he used to play wide receiver.

Prosise caught seven passes for 87 yards against New England and the Patriots were helpless to stop him. In Sunday’s tilt with the Philadelphia Eagles, Prosise did not do as much damage through the air with just two catches for five yards on three targets.

He did, however, score a 72-yard touchdown run, and that was more than enough to make the Seahawks decision to release Christine Michael outright make sense. Rawls had 37 yards on seven carries, and both players were clearly gelling well.

Sadly, the Seahawks star all-purpose back had to leave the game with a shoulder injury and is questionable to return. Rawls is just coming back from an injury and Michael’s departure hurts the depth at running back, so fellow rookie and power back Alex Collins could be called upon for duty.

Hopefully Prosise will be back at it soon, preferably in Week 11. He is an exceptional young talent, and he looks exactly like the player the Seahawks wanted when they took him 90th overall. Prosise is the passing down threat Seattle coveted out of the backfield, and he looks a heck of a lot more dangerous than, say, an aging C.J. Spiller or Fred Jackson.

Update – 8:41 p.m. ET

It’s not sounding promising out of Seattle here early on. Head coach Pete Carroll told Sheil Kapadia of ESPN that “there’s a chance” that Prosise returns this year. Carroll also stated that he would be out a while regardless and they’ll know more after testing on Sunday night and early Monday.

Update – 9 p.m. ET

For what’s being called a scapula injury, Prosise’s timetable does not look favorable. Again, it depends on further testing, but early results aren’t good for the rookie.
