Looking at all of the NFL Combine records in the history of the event.

Every year when the draft prospects head to the NFL Scouting Combine, they have a singular goal in mind. All that these collegiate players want to do is prove through tests and drills that they can make it in the NFL, and earn a payday in the process by being worthy of a high draft pick. If there’s another goal in mind, though, it’s to go down in history by breaking one of the NFL Combine records.

Obviously there is some debate about many of these records as they’ve been kept by different measures over the years. For instance, it’s been widely purported that Bo Jackson, prior to playing for the Oakland Raiders, ran a ridiculous 4.12-second 40-yard dash. Of course, that was before laser timing. Subsequently, Jackson isn’t among those who have one of the official NFL Combine records.

Even if that is the case, though, we’ve seen some absolutely phenomenal athletic feats throughout the history of the Combine. With measures of speed, strength and agility all in play, some players are just made to wow everyone at the Combine. However, it’s something special to go down as the best to ever participate in these events by posting a record-breaking time or number. Certainly records are fleeting, but even going down in the annuls for a year is something worth writing home about.

These are the marks that the prospects are all looking to beat, the NFL Combine records for each event:

  • 40-Yard Dash: Chris Johnson, 2008 – 4.24 seconds
  • Bench Press: Stephen Paea, 2011 – 49 reps
  • Vertical Jump: Donald Washington/Chris Conley, 2009/2015 – 45 inches
  • Broad Jump: Byron Jones, 2015 – 12 feet, 3 inches
  • Three-Cone Drill: Jeff Maehl, 2011 – 6.42 seconds
  • Shuttle Run (20 Yards): Jason Allen, 2006 – 3.81 seconds
  • Shuttle Run (60 Yards): Brandin Cooks, 2014 – 10.72 seconds

It’s hard to imagine some of these marks being touched anytime soon. Then again, that’s likely what some people said before these NFL Combine records were broken. Therefore, never count out anything as someone could run a 4.23 in the 40, put up 50 bench press reps, and so on.
