New Orleans Saints: Ryan Nassib might be the right fit
Without a solid backup, the New Orleans Saints will sign Ryan Nassib, who could surprisingly be a great fit for the Big Easy.
According to NOLA.com, the New Orleans Saints are set to sign quarterback Ryan Nassib. Nassib comes to New Orleans after spending four years as Eli Manning’s backup with the New York Giants.
Stats are the one thing not on Nassib’s side. During his four-year tenure with the Giants, he only played in four games. He only threw one touchdown while completing 9-of-10 passes for a little over a 100 receiving yards. Statistically, Nassib doesn’t have much to his name, but working behind Manning could be what drew him to the Saints.
Playing time is the key to being successful in the league, but so is learning and observing until you’re needed. Unfortunately for Nassib, he ended more on the latter end of things. He was able to sit behind Eli and learn instead of actually playing. When asked about Nassib last season, Manning said, via nj.com:

Surely, Manning’s confidence in him played a factor in the Saints’ decisions. Drew Brees is an extremely healthy and resilient player, so Nassib might not get the playing time he wants. Hopefully, Nassib is able to be utilized this season and won’t end up on the bench.
Much like his time with Manning, Nassib will have a chance to learn from Brees. With such a vast wealth of knowledge, Brees is a great mentor. He’s a great leader and someone the team counts on a lot so he would only aid Nassib more. He’ll also be joining another team which is pass-heavy, so he’ll get opportunities to show off his arm but especially his accuracy.

With a few backups fighting for the job, there will be a competition. If Nassib can show he’s as good on the field as on paper, a roster spot could be waiting. Obviously, the edge goes to Chase Daniel who is familiar with the Saints and close to Brees. Garrett Grayson doesn’t seem as big of a threat to Nassib, for now.
