We take a look at if Atlanta Falcons MVP quarterback Matt Ryan will win the ESPY for the NFL’s 2016 Player of the Year award.

Whether the Atlanta Falcons won the Super Bowl last year or not, you have to admit that Matt Ryan was the best choice for the MVP of the NFL. According to the Falcons’ official website, “Ryan he led the league with his 117.1 passer rating, throwing for 4,944 yards and 38 touchdowns with just seven interceptions”.

Needless to say, it was one of the best seasons any Falcons’ quarterback has ever had.

Winning the MVP award definitely changes how I view Ryan’s career as a whole. Let’s be honest here, if you’ve been a Falcons fan for the past eight years, then you know you’ve doubted if Matty Ice was the guy for this franchise.

That being said, Ryan has worked his tail off and has become one of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks. Super Bowl or not, the former Boston College Eagle is one of the best quarterbacks in the entire National Football League.

Now we come to a point in the offseason where the ESPYS award show begins and fans get to vote on each award. Take a look at the players that Ryan is going up against for this award:

  • Tom Brady, QB, New England Patriots
  • Ezekiel Elliot, RB, Dallas Cowboys
  • Kahlil Mack, DE, Oakland Raiders
  • Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay Packers

If you’ve ever been involved in any kind of high school popularity contest, then you know exactly how this night is going to turn out.

If I had to guess, I would say that Tom Brady wins the award, Ezekiel Elliot comes in second, and NFL’s reigning MVP comes in third. As much as that stinks, we have to prepare ourselves for that probability.

Not saying that Tom Brady doesn’t deserve the award, but he wasn’t the best player in the NFL last season; it was Matt Ryan.

At the end of the day, people aren’t judged by how many ESPY awards that they’ve won. Therefore, whether Ryan wins this award or not is irrelevant. That being said, still tune into ESPN on July 12 to support the best quarterback in Atlanta Falcons history because he definitely deserves that respect.
