These 3 scheduled free agents could help the Dallas Cowboys in 2021

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is saying the right things to the media. When asked about his team and their disastrous 2020 campaign, Jerry — who is ever the salesman — says that it’s not time to tank. To paraphrase his words, they should be winning ball games.

Behind the scenes, the front office has to be looking ahead to 2021. Sure, they want the guys on the field trying their best every week but this team is doing nothing this year. And while the main focus on improving the team is to add talent in the draft, there will be free agents available to help as well.

Of course, Dallas will need to get creative with the salary cap since they’ve overpaid some of their own talent, but the cap is rather fluid — and there are those who contend it isn’t even a real thing. While we will let those who are much smarter figure out how to navigate the dollars and cents, we can identify three players who would improve the Dallas Cowboys dramatically.

3. Dalvin Tomlinson, Defensive Tackle

Maybe the Cowboys are hesitant to sign defensive tackles after Gerald McCoy and Dontari Poe failed to work out but they shouldn’t be. The problem with McCoy was his age and an offseason injury. As for Poe, it was also his age and the fact that Dallas got a bargain — and as the saying goes, you get what you pay for.

Rather than picking through the dollar-bin, the Cowboys should look for a young defensive tackle who can make a difference on their line. And they don’t have to look too far as Dalvin Tomlinson, who plays in the NFC East, is set to hit the open market.

Tomlinson came out of Alabama in 2017 and was a second-round pick of the New York Giants. So far in four seasons, he has 194 tackles, six sacks, and five pass deflections. The 317-pounder is a solid run defender but can also generate pressure on the quarterback, even if the numbers don’t show it. Tomlinson could be everything they hoped Poe would be, and while he will cost more, he won’t be cut seven games into the season.
