The 2013 NFL Draft is just a day away, teams have worked out prospects, some have either slipped up/down from their projected selection in the entire draft.

With the #1 and #2 pick belonging to the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars, the Kansas City Chiefs who have a new offensive system, have two of the best offensive tackles, if not prospects of this draft to choose from.

If you haven’t heard, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New York Jets have completed a trade for corner-back Darrell Revis, that sent the New York Jets the Buccaneers #13 pick overall in the first round. Mike ‘Dyce’ wrote an article earlier about the Bucs looking to trade back into the first round of the draft.

Now keep in mind, there should be a decent amount of trades during this entire draft process, mainly in the 1st round.

This is an update draft to the first mock draft I posted on February 14th.

Round 1 – Eziekiel Ansah, OLB, BYU – The Jets need an elite pass rusher to get back on the map defensively.  There is no perfect pass rusher in the draft, that has both the stats and the good workouts.  A team with the Jets should focus on an athletic player and can count on Rex to coach a raw talent player like Ansah up.  Ansah is versatile and can play LB and has also played DT and DE.  In selecting Ansah, a true defensive coach like Rex Ryan now has a pass rusher that he can line up to rush the pass from anywhere, which seems like something Rex would be into.

Round 1 TRADE BACK with Pittsburgh (possible if Star Lotulelei is still available at #13) – Ryan Nassib, QB, Syracuse – After losing Revis, the Jets are going to have to do something to get their fans excited for the future.  There’s no way they don’t use one of the extra first rounders on a QB to win the job from Sanchez.  It seems like Nassib is the QB the Jets like in this draft.  With at least the Chiefs and Eagles also high on him, the Jets will most likely have to execute a mid-late 1^st rounder for him.  Trading back for a potential franchise QB is risky but feels a lot nicer than trading up for one, especially if you’re a team with as many needs as the Jets.  If the Jets can pull off Ansah, Nassib and an extra 2^nd rounder, it would be an A+ of a first day at the NFL Draft.

Round 2 – Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame – Tyler Eifert, the best tight end in the draft can step in and fill Dustin Keller’s void immediately.  He was a leader and the #1 offensive weapon on a Notre Dame offense that marched into the National Championship.  He lined up at both TE and WR and is the type of player that can help spark some life into a Jets offense that has been in a coma for a few years.  If the Jets can trade back for an athlete like this AND pick up an extra 2^nd rounder, it will be a big win for this team.

Round 2 – (from Pittsburgh) Giovani Bernard, RB, North Carolina – Regarded as one of the top running backs in this class, Bernard is a safe high floor choice for a running back to work into a high ceiling stable of young running backs in Goodson, Powell and McKnight.  Some consider Bernard to be 1^st round talent, he definitely has the potential to come in and immediately prove to be New York’s next franchise running back.

Round 3 – Terrance Williams, WR, Baylor – A tall outside receiver who happened to be the most productive wide out in college football last year, Terrance Williams is the potential #1 WR the Jets have been searching for.  In my opinion, he’s the Jarvis Jones of this receiver class; probably one of the best on tape and production wise, but was not a top performer in workouts.  This is an easy way for a prospect to become be under valued.  These are the types of players the Jets need to be looking for on the 2^nd day of the draft.

Round 4 – Tyrann Mathieu, CB, LSU – The Jets are in a place to take a risk and bring a new headline grabbing player into New York City.  Tyrann Mathieu only needs to play in the nickel for the Jets which he should be ready to step in and do immediately, being that that position was exactly what he was famous for holding down at his time at LSU.  Will he grow to be a #1 CB in the NFL?  Hopefully, but either way he helps out the Jets defense out and completes the cornerback depth as the nickel after Antonio Cromartie and Kyle Wilson’s recent promotions.  Not to mention, he seems like the type of guy who can be a great fit with a coach like Rex Ryan.

Round 5 – Jordan Mills, RT/G, LA Tech – He played his entire college career as a right tackle and was dominant in the position for Louisiana Tech, which had the 5^th most effective offense in the nation last year (only behind Baylor, Texas A&M, Oregon and Oklahoma State).  Scouts also project that he can be a good guard in the NFL.  This is a great use of a 5^th rounder for the Jets; at the best they get the guard they need that can plug in and start right away, at worst they have an experienced right tackle (most will be college Left Tackles converting for their NFL rookie years) to rotate in with Austin Howard who sometimes finds himself with too much on his plate.  Win-win situation for the Jets offensive line.

Round 6 – Denard Robinson, WR/RB/KR/Wildcat QB, Michigan – The Jets finally find their replacement to Brad Smith early in the 6^th round in Denard Robinson.  Robinson is a wild card and has lots of raw athletic talent that can be developed as a WR, RB, Kick Returner and most of all, wildcat QB.  He’s good sleeper pick that could add an extra dimension to the Jets offense and has the popularity to help bring its character back.  Denard is another headline grabbing player who will help a team sell tickets and draw fans out whether or not he makes an immediate impact on the team, so that’s always another plus.

Round 7 – Brandon Bishop, S, NC State – 7^th Round equals sleeper round.  The sleeper pick I like is NC State safety Brandon Bishop.  It’d be nice to see a player like him come in and try to win one of the wide open safety spot on the Jets.  He was a second team all-ACC selection this year, Brandon Bishop is buried in this year’s deep deep safety class but has shown on tape that he has the potential to be a solid contributor at safety in the NFL.  Started 8 games as a true freshman for the Wolfpack and totaled 32 tackles (17 solo and 1 TFL) and broke up 4 passes making the All-Freshman Team.  He became the solid starter at safety for the rest of his career.  In his senior season he totaled in 103 tackles (71 solo, 3 TFLs), intercepted 3 passes and broke up 7 more.  He is a sleeper who is overlooked because of a mediocre 40 time and could step into camp fired up to make an immediate impact in the NFL.

1.Tavon Austin, West Virginia

Best Potential Fit: St. Louis Rams(probably will need to trade up)

The most versatile and high potential receiver in the draft, Tavon Austin has it all.  He can come in and be a Wes Welker or Ty Hilton prototype slot receiver, a kick returner or become a Percy Harvin/Desean Jackson type outside guy who can run amazing reverses as well as burn defenders with his blazing speed.  At best you get a full package skill position player here, at worst you get a great Ted Ginn like kick returner/#2 WR.  The odds are in Austin’s favor if you ask me.

2. Keenan Allen, California

A great, productive and established receiver from Cal who broke Desean Jackson’s career reception record for the Golden Bears. Any team looking for a high ceiling and already skilled hands guy, Keenan Allen is the move.

3. Cordarrelle Patterson, Tennessee

Best Potential Fit: San Diego Chargers (can potentially fall to them)

Has great athleticism and a prototypical build of an NFL receiver.  Hasn’t quite proved himself on tape with the level of success in his numbers seen from WRs like Deandre Hopkins, Tavon Austin, or Keenan Allen.  Probably is someone who can use another year of school but has the measurables to potentially become the best receiver of the class under the right coach.

4. DeAndre Hopkins, Clemson

Best Potential Fit: Houston Texans (Can potentially fall to them)

Great production and stepped in to fill Sammy Watkins’ void when his team needed him to.  Was the only player ever in the ACC to record 50+ receptions his freshman and sophomore years.  Hopkins has potential to be a top #1 WR in the NFL who has the skills now to definitely come in as a possible #1 or a great #2 threat.  We saw during his career in Clemson that he’s a guy you can count on to step in if need be.

5.    Quinton Patton, La Tech

Best Potential Fit: Pittsburgh Steelers (Can trade back in the first or up in the 2nd)

May be the value of the draft because of going to a mid major school.  Quinton Patton was the weapon on his team that made them a cut above their competition.  He’s proven that he can step up to greater competition during his game against a tough SEC foe in Texas A&M where he caught 21 passes for 233 yards and 4 touchdowns.

26. Green Bay Packers – Quinton Patton, WR, LA Tech – The Packers are pretty stacked at Wide receiver with Jordy Nelson, James Jones and Randall Cobb.  But with Aaron Rodgers’ huge contract they decide to add a true outside receiver.  Carrying LA Tech to a 9-3 season and putting up major numbers against the newest SEC powerhouse, Texas A&M; Patton has the potential to be one of the most underrated WRs in the draft. 

27. Houston Texans – DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson – The perfect fit for Houston at this point.  In college Hopkins orginally was Clemson’s #2.  When he got his opportunity with Watkins’ suspension, he proved that he could step it up and be the #1 threat.  This is the type of youngster the Texans should put next to Johnson to give this offense a much needed boost.

28. Denver Broncos – Kawann Short, DT, Purdue – Broncos build depth on their defensive line by taking Purdue’s Kawann Short.  In college Kawann was a team captain at Purdue and started for them since his freshman year, he’s shown great versatility in taking on different roles on the Boilermaker’s interior defensive line.  This makes for a great defensive player for a team who has the need like Denver to invest in for the long term.

29. New England Patriots – Terrence Williams, WR, Baylor – A great and very underrated WR in the draft this year, Williams proved to be productive even after Nick Florence came in to replace Griffin earning first team all american honors and leading the nation in receiving yards.  Also a great kick returner, Williams helps the Pats in multiple ways and impacts New England immediately.

30. Atlanta Falcons – Datone Jones, DE, UCLA - The Falcons take a defensive lineman with great potential to learn the pro game and eventually become a star with guidance from free agent signee Osi Umenyiora.  Datone has had his bumps in the road with injury but posted a spectacular senior season at UCLA making 19 TFLs and 6.5 sacks.  If you add his prototypical NFL size and versatility, he proves to be a very high ceiling project who has the chance to start and make an impact his rookie year in Atlanta.

31. San Francisco 49ers – Eric Reid, FS, LSU - The 49ers get their guy to replace Dashon Goldson in this super stout safety class.  Eric Reid is a former all-SEC free safety who since his freshmen year was a great contributor to the Bayou Bengals’ defense.  A player like this is the perfect guy for a coach like Harbaugh to take in and mold into a great pro.  Eric Reid goes from being a playmaker on one of the best college defenses to one on one of the best pro defenses.

32. Baltimore Ravens – Matt Elam, S, Florida – The Ravens are looking to replace either Lewis or Reed here and have a way better value at the safety position.  Matt Elam was a playmaker in the Gator defensive backfield making 76 tackles (11 TFLs), 1 forced fumble and 4 interceptions.  He is definitely a potential franchise defensive player who can help Baltimore renew their intimidation factor on defense and fill in for Ed Reed in the defensive backfield right away.

22. St. Louis Rams (From Redskins) – John Cyprien, S, FIU – The Rams fill in their need at safety here with John Cyprien, a standout free safety from Florida International, where he currently holds the record for all time leading tackles.  This is a guy who may be unfairly overlooked because of his school but will put out some major numbers to whatever team drafting him.  It’s a homerun hit for a team like the Rams who are only a stand out safety away from fielding a complete defense with no other glaring needs

23. Minnesota Vikings – Keenan Allen, WR California – The Vikings use this opportunity to upgrade their 2012 WR situation.  It’s unfortunate they lost Percy Harvin, but to be able to sign Greg Jennings AND be able to draft a playmaking receiver like Keenan Allen, elevates their offense more than if they had stayed put with Harvin.  Plus, it’ll be nice for Minnesota to have a receiver on the team that won’t miss games due to migraines that occur when the team makes him stop smoking pot for league drug tests.

24. Indianapolis Colts – Damontre Moore, DE/OLB, Texas A&M – The Colts get a highly heralded pass rusher way down in the draft.  Damontre, originally thought of to be a top 5 pick, was one of the best pass rushers in the nation last year at A&M.  A flimsy combine and decent pro day made his draft stock take a bit of a free fall.  The Colts picks him up here, hoping his performance in Indianapolis is better the second time he comes to town

25. Minnesota Vikings (from Seattle Seahawks) – Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia – Minnesota has 2 picks and can take a shot at the quarterback everyone has been talking about.  This gives Christian Ponder much needed competition at the least and a new franchise quarterback at the most.  At this point given every team’s situation, Geno makes the most sense in Minnesota if Jacksonville isn’t comfortable enough to reach for him with the #2 overall pick.

17. Pittsburgh Steelers – Johnathan Hankins, NT, Ohio State – The Steelers’ whole defense is getting old, they need to start going position by position. Not only is Hankins one of the best prospects on the board here, but he’s also a true nose tackle which is very rare and hard to find. If he pans out the way everyone thinks, he can be the perfect first block in the rebuilding of the Steelers.

18. Dallas Cowboys – Kenny Vaccarro, S, Texas – The Cowboys love making sexy picks. This year they can fill their biggest need doing it.  They take Kenny Vaccaro, one of the hottest, most talked about players in this year’s draft.  Kenny doesn’t travel far and keeps his in state Longhorn fanbase by being picked 18th overall by the Dallas Cowboys

19. New York Giants – Alec Ogletree, ILB, Georgia The Giants get the pick of the inside linebacker litter here at #19.  It’s a tough choice, between Alec Ogletree, the long time #1 ILB prospect in this year’s draft and Kansas State’s Arthur Brown.  Both had great seasons leading top 10 ranked defenses to be conference championship contenders.  Alec Ogletree carries a little more liability with minor injuries and off field issues but is clearly the most exciting ILB in the draft this year, putting up numbers that still outshine other players at his position despite playing 10 games.  Without his off field drama, I’d think Alec would be top 15 maybe even a top 10 pick.  The Giants have trust in their coaching staff to keep this kid on track and pick him up with the 19th overall pick.

20. Chicago Bears – Arthur Brown, ILB, Kansas State
Guess who else needs an inside linebacker and has a great prospect on the board?  That’s right.  The Bears.  Arthur Brown seems to be a great replacement for Urlacher.  Both were said to be undersized for their position (Arthur Brown’s biggest knock).  Chicago understands that size isn’t everything and that it’s possible to play bigger than you actually are.  What better place  for Arthur Brown to step in immediately in the shoes of a great player with similar criticisms and prove the critics wrong?

12. Miami Dolphins – Bjorn Werner, DE, FSU – The Dolphins get Bjorn Werner who many thought would be a top 5 pick all the way down at pick #12. The Dolphins just signed a big CB in Brent Grimes in free agency, plus there should be some very high potential CB picks at the top of round 2 to fill in the #2 slot and eventually become #1.  The Dolphins hit a home-run here filling their greatest need with one of the best overall players available at pick #12.

13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia – Tampa Bay can’t let a linebacker like Jones fall any farther than 13^th overall.  They have a glaring need for an upgraded linebacker corps.  Not only that, but Jarvis Jones according to the body of work he’s put on film, is the best player available at this point in the draft.  They take him, wisely and become a force to be reckoned with next season in the NFC South which can be 2013’s best division in the NFL.

14. Carolina Panthers– Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri – The Panthers continue to build up their talent rich but hole-y defense with one of the top 4-3 defensive tackles in this class.  Richardson would join an up and coming defense anchored by Luke Kuechly at MLB and Charles Johnson at DE.  The Panthers also signed free agent DBs Drayton Florence (CB from Detroit) and Mike Mitchell (SS from Oakland) who will step in and make an immediate impact in the Carolina secondary.

15. Cleveland Browns (trade with New Orleans)– Barkevious Mingo, DE/OLB, LSU – The Browns get a few extra picks trading down with New Orleans here yet still fill their hole at pass rushing jack DE/OLB.  Without a 2^nd round pick this year the Browns needed to do something to get some slack.  The Saints don’t have a 2nd round to give but I’m sure Cleveland gets this years 3^rd and another pick from the Saints in 2014, yet still get one of this draft’s elite pass rushers

Round 1 – Luke Joeckel, T, Texas A&M- We all can assume they use this pick on an offensive tackle.  The popular pick here would be Joeckel but some people argue that the Chiefs may take Central Michigan’s Eric Fisher.   I say Joeckel is safer, we’ve seen him on tape against numerous 1^st round defenders in this class and know exactly what we’re getting.  Eric Fisher will probably be good too and may even have a higher ceiling but the Chiefs need to make sure to get it right this time.

Round 2 – Tyler Eiffert, TE,  Notre Dame – Does any team need an early round tight end more than the Chiefs?  Since the Bears acquired Martellus Bennett, I can’t think of one (maybe Tennessee? – they have many other needs though).  Eiffert can be a good grab at the top of round 2 for the Chiefs, giving them not only some more help blocking but also potentially becoming the 2^nd playmaking receiver that Kansas City has been searching for for the last few years.  The Chiefs may get lucky and see Eiffert drop just due to teams having more pressing needs in round 1.

Sleeper – Cobi Hamilton, WR, Arkansas – The brightest spot on a dismal Arkansas team, Hamilton may just be who Kansas City is looking for to take pressure off Bowe.  He’s a big bodied receiver at 6’3 209, who can complement the athletic, speedy Bowe well.  He has over 1,300 yards receiving, was a 3^rd team all-american and still is only being projected as a 5^th rounder.  Cobi Hamilton can very well turn out to be the gem of this draft.  Paired with Bowe, a playmaking tight end in Eiffert and Baldwin and McClustor splitting slot duties, the Chiefs all the sudden seem to have some serious firepower for newcomer, Alex Smith

ROUND 1: (TRADE DOWN with the Rams – who may want to trade up for Tavon Austin) Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia – The Jets need to find a trade partner to gain an extra 2nd rounder to help rebuild this team.  Jarvis Jones shows lots of promise on tape but a decent pro day and a combine no show will have him slip out of the top 10.  It would be a HUGE win if the Jets can find a way to trade down in the 1^st round for an extra 2^nd rounder and still pick up one of the following: Ziggy Ansah, Jarvis Jones, or Kiki Mingo. I’d be very surprised if Ansah slipped out of the top 10 but stranger things have happened.

ROUND 2:  Quinton Patton – WR, La Tech – A monster at receiver who probably is a first round value who will go in round 2.  Against Texas A&M’s elite SEC defense, Patton racked in 244 yards and 4 TDs almost carrying his team to a big upset victory over the Aggies.  That’s enough to impress this Aggie fan.  Just ask Marques Colston, TY Hilton and Victor Cruz, don’t sleep on small school receivers!

ROUND 2: (from Rams in theoretical trade down)- Bacarri Rambo, S, Georgia – A player who would be a first rounder but because of character issues got knocked down to a 2^nd day grab.  I think Rambo may be  the Janoris Jenkins of this year’s draft and teams know that.  Many will try to wait until the beginning of the 3^rd, so if you want and need this dynamic playmaker at safety, you may have to spend a mid-late second on him

Round 3: – Barrett Jones, OL, Alabama – If the Jets don’t want to spend an early pick on a safe offensive lineman, they could use a utility blocker in Barrett Jones.  He’s played G, T and C and could immediately step in and fill the glaring need the Jets have at guard.  If Mangold has anymore injury issues this season, he can also fill in at center, the Jets need a player like this to at least add to their depth of their offensive line

Round 4: Marcus Lattimore, RB, South Carolina – This pick is like Rambo in that every team kinda wants to take a chance on Lattimore.  But he still needs some more time to recover from his gruesome injury.  The fact that it was his 2^nd injury keeps him in the 3-4^th round range.  A team desperate for a running back like the Packers may throw a late 3rd rounder for him, but I think the majority of teams will look for him in the 4th and think of him as a potential 2014 starter.  If he can come into the league and stay healthy, it’d be a HUGE splash because without injury issues, Lattimore is the best running back prospect in the 2013 class.  Either way, he would have an underrated Mike Goodson and Bilal Powell to take the pressure off of him

Round 5: Chris Gragg, TE, Arkansas – The Jets all the sudden need help at tight end, Chris Gragg was one of the most athletic at the combine and can come in and be an effective pass catching tight end with the right opportunity

Round 6: Ricky Wagner, OT, Wisconsin – When in doubt grab a Wisconsin lineman off the board.  Ricky started as a left tackle for the Badgers but can probably step in right away on the right side for teams.  He could either be a great rotational player with Howard or if he surprises, can take on a full time role on the Jets’ offensive line.

Round 7: Philip Lutzenkirchen, TE, Auburn – He’s a big prototypical NFL sized tight end who holds the record for touchdown receptions for a tight end for the Tigers.  He’s a big red zone target almost unblockable by a single defender for short yardage, also great in pass protection.  The Jets can afford their 7^th in exchange for getting Lutzenkirchen into their tight end competition.

Round 1 – Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma – This seems like a bit of a reach but if Lane Johnson fell to the Saints at 15, it’s not something New Orleans could pass up.  Their #1 priority should be protecting the team’s most valuable asset, Drew Brees.  The Saints know that they have to make a splash with their first round pick being that they don’t have a 2nd rounder this year, so for them I say Lane Johnson or bust.  Lane Johnson is probably the most athletic offensive lineman, the rich man’s Terron Armstead running a sub-4.8 40 as an offensive lineman.  If Lane isn’t there at pick #15, look for them to trade down for a dynamic first round defender like Ohio State’s Johnathan Hankins or Texas A&M’s Damontre Moore as well as an extra pick.

Sleeper – Montori Hughes, NT, UT-Martin - This is a steal for any team in need of a nose tackle.  Montori Hughes is a true nose tackle whose had some issues off the field.  Originally an SEC defender anchoring the defensive line for the Tennessee Volunteers, Montori is a steal for a 3rd day pick.  He’s a highly physical and naturally athletic nose tackle earning the start for the Volunteers by the beginning of his sophomore season.  Unfortunately, he was dismissed from the Volunteers after failing to make grades and getting involved in a “dorm room incident.”  This, coupled with the depth at 2013′s interior defensive line class is probably the main reason he falls from the 2nd day to the 3rd day which makes him a potential gem as a 4th – 7th round pick.  Luckily, there are no classes or dorm rooms in the NFL. With a Ryan guiding him on defense combined with an excellent motivator in Sean Payton, Montori Hughes can potentially be a steal in this draft for New Orleans (or any team with great defensive coaching in need of a true nose tackle).
