With the #29 pick in the NFL Draft, the New England Patriots have traded their pick to the Minnesota Vikings who select Cordarrelle Patterson out of Tennessee.

With their 3rd pick in the 1st round, this team is showing that they want to win. Picking up another possible starter across Greg Jennings who signed with the Minnesota Vikings from the Green Bay Packers. A speedy wide receiver, good body control, has great field awareness, catches the ball using his body, needs to work on his hands. A player who you could possibly line up in the backfield like they did with Percy Harvin and run some plays with him as a half back.

Could also become a punt/kick returner, not exactly Percy Harvin, but could have some sort of impact for this team like Harvin did.

The St. Louis Rams are on the clock.

Best Potential Fit: St. Louis Rams(probably will need to trade up)

The most versatile and high potential receiver in the draft, Tavon Austin has it all.  He can come in and be a Wes Welker or Ty Hilton prototype slot receiver, a kick returner or become a Percy Harvin/Desean Jackson type outside guy who can run amazing reverses as well as burn defenders with his blazing speed.  At best you get a full package skill position player here, at worst you get a great Ted Ginn like kick returner/#2 WR.  The odds are in Austin’s favor if you ask me.

2. Keenan Allen, California

A great, productive and established receiver from Cal who broke Desean Jackson’s career reception record for the Golden Bears. Any team looking for a high ceiling and already skilled hands guy, Keenan Allen is the move.

3. Cordarrelle Patterson, Tennessee

JUNIOR YEAR: 778 yards, 5tds

Best Potential Fit: San Diego Chargers (can potentially fall to them)

Has great athleticism and a prototypical build of an NFL receiver.  Hasn’t quite proved himself on tape with the level of success in his numbers seen from WRs like Deandre Hopkins, Tavon Austin, or Keenan Allen.  Probably is someone who can use another year of school but has the measurables to potentially become the best receiver of the class under the right coach.

4. DeAndre Hopkins, Clemson

Great production and stepped in to fill Sammy Watkins’ void when his team needed him to.  Was the only player ever in the ACC to record 50+ receptions his freshman and sophomore years.  Hopkins has potential to be a top #1 WR in the NFL who has the skills now to definitely come in as a possible #1 or a great #2 threat.  We saw during his career in Clemson that he’s a guy you can count on to step in if need be.

5.    Quinton Patton, La Tech

Best Potential Fit: Pittsburgh Steelers (Can trade back in the first or up in the 2nd)

May be the value of the draft because of going to a mid major school.  Quinton Patton was the weapon on his team that made them a cut above their competition.  He’s proven that he can step up to greater competition during his game against a tough SEC foe in Texas A&M where he caught 21 passes for 233 yards and 4 touchdowns.

The NFL draft is fast approaching and while it may not be very top heavy, it has some good depth. The wide receiver position has some very good talent and the top talent at the position is wide receiver Cordarelle Patterson out of the University of Tennessee. Patterson could be the next big time talent at the wide receiver position in the NFL.

Cordarrelle Patterson is a 6’3, 205 pound junior that was the primary playmaker for the Volunteers this past season. His start at the junior college level proves that he has the will and the determination to be great. He was often times the fastest player on the field, being able to run a 4.48 forty yard dash. He has all the tools to become great wide receiver, the size, speed, and the elusiveness necessary to be a big time playmaker in the NFL.

Patterson has a very athletic build and has the fluidity along with the hands that are required to be a productive NFL wide receiver. Patterson has the strength necessary to be able to box out and go up and grab the contested catch in traffic. His route running needs improvement but that can be an easy fix with the right type of coaching.

Cordarrelle Patterson has the athleticism to be an extremely dangerous return man either on punts or on kickoffs. During his time with the Tennessee Volunteers, he was one of the most dangerous return men in all college football.

Cordarrelle set over a dozen records while at Hutchinson Community College. He then went on and set the all-purpose yardage record at the University of Tennessee during the 2012 college football season. Cordarrelle Patterson has all of the tools necessary to be a big time talent in the NFL. He should be a first round draft pick, maybe going very early around picks 13-18.
