St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher, formally of the Tennessee Titans has slowly brought former Titans players over to his new team. First, it was cornerback Cortland Finnegan and now it is tight end Jared Cook. Jared Cook was considered the top tight end in the free agent class but when the Tennessee Titans signed former San Francisco 49ers tight end Delanie Walker.

So the Rams went out and acquired tight end Jared Cook with a five year contract. The “rumored price tag” is $8 million per year though that’s an awful lot of someone who has never cleared 50 receptions in a season.

Cook is still young at 26 and is set to be entering his prime and could become one of Sam Bradford’s favorite targets. Even though he is a tight end he could serve as a slot receiver as well. He has a big frame at 6-5 and 248 pounds but has been timed at 4.4 seconds in the 40 yard dash.

The Rams also seem to be ok with wide receiver Danny Amendola and running back Steven Jackson walking away. The Rams are determined to acquire players that are “big play” threats and view Amendola as Jackson as reliable chain movers who lack the ability to make big plays.

Cook averages 13.1 yards per career catch and has 8 touchdowns.

The Miami Dolphins were rumored to be the favorites to pursue free agent wide receiver and Pittsburgh Steelers Mike Wallace. They apparently aren’t wasting any time getting involved right after the free agent period opened.

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reports that the Dolphins and Mike Wallace are currently negotiating a 5 year contract.

“Dolphins and Mike Wallace are negotiating a five-year deal that one source familiar with the talks said is “very, very likely” to get done,” Schefter tweeted.

Schefter said on the deal is a match and that the money will be well north of $10 million a year. This might take them out of the running to resign LT Jake Long and RB Reggie Bush.

“Dolphins left tackle Jake Long is scheduling a visit to St. Louis for tonight. The Eagles, Bears and Dolphins also are interested,” Schefter says.

Schefter also added that the Dolphins are interested in TE Jared Cook.

“Miami also making major push to sign Titans free-agent TE Jared Cook,” Schefter tweeted.

That takes a big deep threat off the market quickly and could drive up the price for other wide receivers on the market like Danny Amendola and Wes Welker.

They seem to be determined to amass weapons for young quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

At 6’5″ and 246 pounds, it is hard to believe he played wide receiver and safety in high school? Jared Cook was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in 2009 as a late 3rd round pick.

Now, his production has been a little low, but I don’t think he has reached his peak yet. Being a free agent, he could possibly find an offense that gets him more involved and use his size to their advantage. Everybody loves to have a tall and powerful tight-end on their roster who can dominate when it comes to blocking and catch just as good as a regular receiver.

In his rookie season with the Titans, he only recorded 9 receptions for 74 yards in just 14 games. His second season was a tad better, he finished with 29 catches, 361 yards and one touchdown.

He may not be one of those tight end threats like Vernon Davis, Tony Gonzalez, Rob Gronkowski, etc. And he may not cost as much, but find the right system for this guy and he could potentially reach that level, which is a good thing for Cook.

Tight ends who are on this list are probably going to be looking for top dollar, guys like Delanie Walker, Tony Gonzalez, Dustin Keller, Anthony Fasano, are possibly going to have a bigger price tag next to their name. So whoever takes a look at Jared Cook, could possibly get a steal without having to empty out your pockets. Let’s check out who could use this monster of a man.

1. Chicago Bears - They want to be a consistent offense and yes, they have a 6’7 tight end whose name happens to be Kellen Davis, but he struggled last year. The Chicago Bears haven’t really had much production from the tight-end position ever since they traded Greg Olsen, which allowed them to trade that pick they received from the Carolina Panthers to Miami, for Brandon Marshall. I’m sure Cutler loves being reunited with Brandon Marshall, but Greg Olsen was his go too target when Olsen was a Chicago Bear. I would expected the Bears to do something with at least Matt Spaeth who hasn’t really produced since he was brought on board with the organization. Cook should have a reasonable price tag and could be targeted by the Chicago Bears.

2. Houston Texans - Adding Cook would add more depth at the tight-end position, considering Owen Daniels and Garrett Graham are both 6’3, so throwing in a 6’5 tight end who can go up and snatch balls out of the air should help move this offense in the right direction. Last season the Texans looked as if they were going to lock up the #1 seed and for sure dominate the AFC Playoffs. These two were bothered by injuries last year, Graham who had his best season of his career, had highs in catches (28), yards (263) and touchdowns (3), while Daniels anchored the position recording 700 yards and 6 touchdowns. Considering that James Casey is also a free agent, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Texans take a look at Cook if they can get him at the right price.

3. Arizona Cardinals - They need help at a few key positions and tight-end is definitely one of them. It shouldn’t really matter who they bring in at the quarterback position, just as long as they have a target like Jared Cook to throw to. This team should be busy come March 12th, just curious on who actually wants to go to Arizona. Their defense is solid, but their offense has a lot of problems that need to be fixed. Cook would be a good addition to help revive this offense.

4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Probably going to be one of the most active teams this off-season when free agency starts. They have been on a few of our lists for different position players when it comes top Top 5 teams for certain players. Dallas Clark is a free agent, could be re-signed but i’m sure Tampa Bay and their front office are going to window shop at each position until they feel comfortable enough to make their offer.

5. Tennessee Titans - If the Titans were smart, they wouldn’t let Cook go. They need to get him more involved in their offense, but why would you want to play somewhere, where you are over-looked? I wouldn’t be surprised if they use a franchise tag on Cook, but nothing really surprises me anymore. I think they could be favorites to bring back Cook, but I’ll say this again. USE. HIS. SIZE! Don’t take this mans talent for granted, or it could bite you on the butt one day when you see whichever team who brings him in, turning him into the pro-bowl tight-end he should be.

Tony Gonzalez if he doens’t retire is the best option, albeit a short term solution. But if your team is a Super Bowl contender you could have the future hall of famer.

Dallas Clark and Chris Cooley were once effective tight ends but are headed to the dreaded down slope of their careers. Fred Davis is an interesting player but is coming off an injury.

Martellus Bennett hasn’t lived up to expectations.

But this list is crowded with big names, most of whom are past their prime. But there are options available and any player can succeed in the right situation with a good quarterback throwing them the ball.

Tennessee Titans tight end Jared Cook had requested a trade prior to the NFL’s trade deadline because of his displeasure with his role in the Titans offense. Titans head coach Mike Munchak said that he was committed to Cook and planned to get him more involved in the team’s offensive gameplan.

Despite having one touchdown catch last week against the Dolphins, Cook was given fewer reps than the third tight end on the Titans depth chart — Taylor Thompson. Thompson played 24 snaps against the Dolphins, while Cook was on the field for 23.

“We have a third tight end that can do a lot of things,” said Munchank, “and that opens up a lot of lanes.”

Thompson is a converted defensive end. He is seeing the field more often as the Titans are turning to the running game to assist Jake Locker. Thompson is a much better blocker in all aspects of the game than Cook and it has led to his extended playing time.

If Cook was unhappy with his role in the offense prior to the trade deadline, his frustration with the team and their coaching staff can only be getting worse.

Tennessee Titans tight end Jared Cook is in the final year of his contract and would like the chance to showcase his talent and work towards a big free agent contract this offseason. Unfortunately for Cook, he isn’t getting a fair opportunity from the Titans.

Cook played less than 50 percent of the team’s offensive snaps in four out of eight games this season. This past week, Cook only received four targets and played in just 42 percent of the team’s offensive snaps.

Now, with the trade deadline just 24 hours away, signs point towards Cook requesting a trade.

Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean approached Cook’s agent about a possible trade request and was hit with the always popular, ”no comment.”

Cook has always been an athletic tight end who could provide trouble for opposing defenses if given the proper opportunity. His college coach, Steve Spurrier, once said that Cook is as naturally talented as Detroit Lions star receiver Calvin Johnson. That type of glowing endorsement is what could intrigue potential NFL suitors.

The Tennessee Titans have a very athletic weapon at tight end in Jared Cook. While Cook is a big weapon for the Titans who has the ability to create mismatches, the Titans failed to get Cook involved until late in last week’s game. Cook had zero catches through the first three quarters.

Following the loss, offensive coordinator Chris Palmer admitted that he wishes he would have gotten the ball to Cook earlier in the game against the Vikings.

Through the first five weeks of the season, Cook has only been targeted 28 times. The good news for Tennessee is that Cook has made the best of those targets hauling in 19 catches for 237 yards and two touchdowns. Cook could see his numbers spike if he receives more targets early in often as the Titans offense moves forward.
