Washington Redskins 27-year-old wide receiver Josh Morgan underwent surgery on his right ankle in mid-January, and it seemed like Morgan needed surgery on his ankle. He didn’t look as effective after the catch in 2012, and a minor surgery on his right ankle should help him out next season in his final year of the two-year contact he signed with the Redskins. Morgan is set to make $3.8 million in base salary next season.

According to a tweet from Redskins beat writer Mike Jones of the Washington Post, Morgan also needed ligaments in both of his hands repaired in addition to the ankle surgery he underwent in January. So it looks like Morgan’s hands, in addition to his “feet”, needed some repair.

Josh Morgan could be in doubt for OTAs, and the Redskins will need to monitor the health of his right leg closely heading into the 2013 season. But the surgery will help him out, and he continued to show skill as a guy moving the chains with 48 receptions last season. However, he only had 510 receiving yards due to a meager 10.6 yards per reception. By comparison, Morgan had 15.9 yards per reception in 2010, but a look at his other career totals show that his YAC fluctuates based on the health of his right leg/ankle.

Hopefully for the Redskins, Morgan will be good to go next season and will average closer to 16 yards per catch than ten.

The flurry of activity surrounding the Washington Redskins has continued with the signing of former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Josh Morgan.

The deal is for 5 years and is worth $12 million with $7.5 million of that guaranteed. There is however an out for the Redskins in this deal as it can be voided after two years if necessary.

Morgan was one of the more promising players drafted by the 49ers in recent years but poor performance and injuries have led him to relative mediocrity. However, SI.com’s Peter King has declared Morgan to be one of his value pickups thus far of the 2012 free agency period.
