Michael Vick was once considered the fastest man in the NFL. Highlight reels showed him running past defenders with lightning quickness when he was earlier in his career with Atlanta.

Now, at 32, many think Michael Vick has lost a step, including his teammate running back LeSean McCoy. The young running back had been calling out Vick in offseason workouts and egging him on with names like “old man.”

Finally Vick had enough and agreed to race McCoy. Eagles safety Colt Anderson tweeted out that Vick beat McCoy in the race. And according to Rotoworld he won by a solid 5 yards.

According to Pro Football Talk, Michael Vick asked new head coach Chip Kelly if it were ok for him to accept the challenge. They also said their teammates went nuts. If I were a member of the Eagles, I probably would’ve gone nuts too.

There is nothing better than someone egging on a wise veteran only to get taken to school. It reminds me of Kyrie Irving challenging Kobe Bryant ahead of the Olympics when Team USA was training. That bet was for $50,000 but according to Kobe Bryant it never happened because Kyrie said he needed to ‘get his money up’ first.

Last year we saw Andy Reid waffle between Nick Foles and Michael Vick at the quarterback position for the Philadelphia Eagles. Some thought Andy Reid could try and get Nick Foles to follow to Kansas City but now that they’ve traded for Alex Smith it seems as he’ll stay and they’ll have a quarterback competition.

And it might not come down to just those two, Dennis Dixon was quoted as saying he thinks he is in the mix. Which makes sense, he played at Oregon and the Eagles new head coach is his former coach at Oregon.

But running back LeSean McCoy thinks there is no competition at all, and he said so in an interview with Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com.

“I think Michael Vick is the starting quarterback,” McCoy said

“People forget, this is Michael Vick,” McCoy said. “He’s got a lot to prove this year, but he’s ready to roll. He knows people are questioning if he can get it done, and he’s gonna prove this year he can.”

Michael Vick only played and started in 10 games this season for the Eagles. His numbers were average at best, he completed only 58.1% of his passes for 2,362 yards while throwing 12 touchdowns to 11 interceptions.

The speculation surrounding Michael Vick’s future with the Philadelphia Eagles has come to an end. The Eagles have restructured Vick’s contract, originally set to go through 2016, as a one year deal according to Adam Schefter. That deal is set to be worth $10 million for next season.

Many thought that the Eagles would cut Michael Vick before February 6th, on that day Michael Vick was guaranteed $3 million for the next season. Had they cut the quarterback the Eagles would be left with only Nick Foles at the quarterback.

But the Eagles ultimately decided to stick with Vick as Adam Schefter reported one tweet at a time.

Biggest off-season QB domino already has fallen: Eagles have re-signed Michael Vick to a one-year deal for 2013 season.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) February 11, 2013

Michael Vick and the Eagles needed each other for 2013. It’s a win-win. They succeed, they stay together. They don’t they break up.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) February 11, 2013

Eagles QB Michael Vick signed a one-year deal that could be worth up to $10 million.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) February 11, 2013

And now, with Michael Vick re-signing, the crop of free-agent QBs becomes even smaller, giving SF more leverage to trade Alex Smith.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) February 11, 2013

He is right, that makes Alex Smith all the more valuable to a franchise looking for a quick solution at quarterback.

There has been all sorts of speculation this offseason regarding the future of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick with the vast majority of opinions insisting that Vick would not remain with the Eagles and may indeed fail to find a landing spot anywhere much like predecessor Donovan McNabb. One opinion out there has disputed the possibility of Vick leaving Philly – ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio. Speaking on ESPN Radio’s Mike and Mike In The Morning on Thursday, SalPal gave a very succinct view on the situation with the main thrust being that Eagles head coach Chip Kelly is personally trying to convince Vick to stay.

“Vick has had several one-on-one meetings with Chip Kelly.”"Kelly is the master recruiter out of college. He is trying to recruit the good graces of Michael Vick right now, convince him ‘Hang around with us, I’m your best option’. For Vick and agent Joe Seagal, they’ve got to say ‘Alright, if the Eagles are the best option, what do they possibly do money-wise?”"It’s a very complicated situation but it goes back to this – if you’re the Eagles, why do you invest any time or any money in a quarterback who is not your future?”

It’s no secret that any team that takes on Vick in 2013 will have issues signing him given the high salary he commanded recently with Philly. Arizona head coach Bruce Arians has already made it clear he will not take on Vick and Sal Pal indicated Merrone in Buffalo wouldn’t take him either. A reunion with Andy Reid in Kansas City is unlikely according to various reports. Given their recent bad experience with former OC Tony Sparano and quarterback Tim Tebow it is also unlikely the Jets would take on Vick. Finally, I would also rule out Oakland given that they are looking to cut costs and may be jettisoning Carson Palmer in the coming months. Let’s take stock – Michael Vick is aging, his skills are in decline, he has shown himself to be injury prone in recent years and is owed a whopping $15.5 million. All that tells us one thing – either Vick accepts a deal where he takes a big paycut or he likely walks away from the game in much the same way as the aforementioned McNabb. In terms of motivation for Vick, Paolantonio raised several salient points.

“Michael Vick just bought a house here in South Jersey, he just got married to a woman who has a nice little business in Philadelphia, he’s got some children here and has put down roots.”

When it comes down to how Vick and other players in similar situations make these kind of decisions, often it is personal circumstances that can have the biggest impact on staying with their current team. This is especially true of veteran players. Vick’s options are extremely limited and the fact that so many people close to him would be affected by a change of teams now is a powerful motivator. Vick has a chance to turn his career around and maybe get a few more years either in Philadelphia or elsewhere. Right now it is evident that Nick Foles isn’t ready for the big time. There is talk that Dennis Dixon, who formerly played under Kelly at Oregon and is now the Ravens third string quarterback, would also be brought in as a possible future starter for the team but once again he would likely require at least a month or two to get up to speed. Vick would likely get the opportunity to be the regular season starter for Philly for the first 4-6 weeks. In this time, he has the chance to prove his detractors wrong by performing well and staying healthy. If it doesn’t work out, he can walk away. If it does, he gets maybe three years as a backup or even a solid job offer as a starter. In the end, it is still most likely that Michael Vick’s career in Philadelphia and possibly the NFL is over. Still, with Chip Kelly doing so much to attempt to keep Vick on we cannot rule out the possibility he will indeed stay with Philly. One positive thing in his favor – the fact that the team just let the deadline pass for him to be paid $3 million guaranteed this coming season. Will Michael Vick remain in Philly? Give us your thoughts below.

The Philadelphia Eagles playoff went down the drain for the 2012-13 NFL season after they lost on Sunday Night Football to the division rival Dallas Cowboys, 38-23.

With nothing left to play for, head coach Andy Reid announced on Monday that the team will use the remainder of the season to see what rookie quarterback Nick Foles can bring to the table.

“Today I’m going to name Foles — Nick — the starting quarterback for the remainder of the season,” said Reid, per the Washington Post. “Mike is on the fast track so we might be able to get him back this season. No. 1 is his health, most importantly. And No. 2 it gives one of our young players an opportunity to play here the next four games as the starter. Each week he’s come in as the replacement guy.

“Now he is the starter and we’ll see how he does with that on his plate.”

The key factor in Reid’s situation was winning football games. Reid believes Foles can help the team win games to finish out the year and he wants to make sure Vick gets back to 100 percent health.

“I think where we’re at in the season it gives us an opportunity to play and finish it up,” Reid said. “He’s playing well enough to where I think he can win football games and I think where we sit at this position in the season it’s the right thing to do. And Michael, we’ve got to make sure he gets healthy.”

It may not matter in the long run. All signs point to Reid and Vick being ousted at the season’s end.

The Philadelphia Eagles announced today that quarterback Michael Vick did not pass his ImPACT concussion test and will not be cleared for practice on Thursday.

With Vick not able to practice again, it will be the third week that rookie Nick Foles gets the start at quarterback.

The common belief by many close to the Eagles organization is that Philadelphia plans to keep Vick on the bench until the end of the season, when he will likely be released. For the Eagles and Vick, the concussion is a convenient excuse to demote Vick without having to officially move him down the depth chart.

Foles will be able to audition for the Eagles starting job next year over the final weeks of the season.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick was injured during the team’s brutal loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. During head coach Andy Reid’s press conference on Monday, he described Vick’s injury to be a “pretty significant concussion.”

[blackbirdpie url="http://twitter.com/RapSheet/statuses/268036137191342081"]

The injury means that Vick could miss a few games which would allow Reid and the Eagles to play rookie Nick Foles without any sort of quarterback controversy. The problem for the Eagles will be which signal-caller to put under center when both are healthy enough to play.

The Philadelphia Eagles announced early Wednesday morning that quarterback Michael Vick will remain the starter this weekend against the New Orleans Saints. While Vick holds on to his job for week nine on Monday Night Football, he appears to be on a week-to-week basis when it comes to keeping his job.

There is no doubt that rookie signal caller Nick Foles is breathing down his neck.

Vick has struggled with turnovers all season and has been a big part of the Eagles disappointing start to the season. Not only are the turnovers killing Philly, but the accuracy of Vick has been horrendous.

Outside of the pocket, Vick has only completed 28 percent of his passes — which is the worst percentage in the NFL.

Philadelphia will get back to practice today as they prepare for their Monday night showdown. It is going to be a very important game for Vick and the Eagles, who remain in the playoff race. If the team drops to 3-5 , it could finally be the time for Vick to see the bench.

While the Philadelphia Eagles continue to struggle and the team is reportedly considering benching Michael Vick, the quarterback is still receiving support from his teammates. One of those teammates is wide receiver DeSean Jackson who expressed his belief in Vick today on ESPN Radio’s Mike and Mike in the Morning.

“As far as I know right now, Michael Vick is going to be the quarterback. I haven’t heard of changes or anything like that, so we’re still going with the plan,” Jackson said.

Jackson added that Vick has been responsible for many turnovers but you can never blame losing on just one player.

“You can’t ever blame it on one man,” Jackson said. “There’s been turnovers and things like that, but as far as Michael Vick and what he’s capable of doing, I think he’s still an elite quarterback.

“We expect a lot more out of ourselves. We’ve lost some games that we feel we should have won.”

It is nice to see Jackson sticking up for his quarterback but his logic is flawed. Vick’s turnovers have been a major reason for the Eagles struggles and without those turnovers they would see significant improvement in the win column. Even with some teammates belief, Vick’s time is running out.

Andy Reid had said that Michael Vick was the Philadelphia Eagles’ staring quarterback for “right now” and set off a firestorm in debate about Vick’s role. Andy Reid though is back peddling and trying to clarify his statements and clear up the confusion and speculation.

“It was the last question. I was finishing up the press conference,” Reid said while on a radio show in Philly. “Michael’s our quarterback. Period. Michael’s our quarterback. Listen, does he need to get better? Do we all need to get better? Yes. We’re all going to do that.”

His initial comments following the Eagles’ loss to the Arizona Cardinals was a perfect storm for something to be misconstrued. The Eagles struggled that game in a 27-6 loss. But despite a 2-1 record Vick hasn’t been himself so far this season. His numbers include six interception and just three touchdown passes and one touchdown run. He’s also been put on his back 9 times.

The other two quarterbacks on the roster are Nick Foles and Trent Edwards. It’s not exactly Kevin Kolb knocking on the door behind Vick.

Andy Reid had a simple answer when asked if Nick Foles could expect more snaps in practice this week.

“No, not right now.”

But if they don’t fix the turnover problem Reid could revisit this next week. The 12 turnovers in the first 3 weeks is the most for the Eagles since 1977.
