With the flat cap era we’ve seen many players restructure their deals to stay with teams, we’ve also seen many players released or cut and labeled cap casualties So here are the Top 10 NFL Offensive free agents this season.

10. Greg Jennings, WR, Green Bay Packers

Greg Jennings has two things working against him: age and injuries. Three if you add ego given the reports of how much money he wants. He turns 30 when the season starts in September and missed games in both of the last seasons. Not to mention the majority of this past season. If healthy he could help your team out for a few years but could wind up not getting that long term deal he wants.

9. Fred Davis, TE, Washington Redskins

Fred Davis has struggled with injuries in his young career. In the past two seasons he has only played in 19 games. In those 19 games though he has caught 83 passes for 1,121 yards. He could be an asset to a team that is more pass oriented than the Redskins. And if he is healthy he could have a break out season. He is only 27, which means he is entering his prime and could contribute to an offense for a while.

8. Phil Loadholt, OT, Minnesota Vikings

A relatively young 27 year old tackle could help any offensive line out on the right hand side. He is a solid run and pass blocker and has started 63 games over his career in Minnesota, missing only 1 game his rookie season. He has incredible size too at 6-8 and 348 pounds.

7. Danny Amendola, WR, St. Louis Rams

Danny Amendola is “Wes Welker” type receiver, similar size and stature but he is 4 years younger than Welker. He’s struggled with injuries but can be a game changer when on the field. When he is healthy though he can put up numbers amongst the best in the league, we was second in receptions in the NFL entering week 5. He also is a valuable punt and kick returner.

6. Brandon Moore, OG, New York Jets

A 32 year old veteran of the league, having spent his entire career in New York. He earned a trip to the Pro Bowl in 2011 and hasn’t missed a start in 8 years. His age might concern some, but those teams with many needs to address can find a quick, albeit temporary fix, with Moore.

5. Wes Welker, WR, New England Patriots

The only reason I have Wes Welker so low on the list is the likelihood that he re-signs with the New England Patriots. If New England lets him walk away, or for some reason he decides to, he will be a coveted free agent. He has led the Patriots in receptions in 5 of the past 6 seasons, averages over 100 catches and 1,000 yards a season in New England. The man is a machine and any team would be lucky to have him. He just has it too good in New England to walk away.

4. Reggie Bush, RB, Miami Dolphins

Reggie Bush is a dual threat running back and can catch balls out of the back field. He is drawing interest from around the league as players petition Bush to join them. But it comes down to money or rings for Bush, and which he is after. He is still young having just turned 28 and should have a few more seasons of top level football left in him. In 2 years in Miami he has rushed for 2,072 yards and averages 4.7 yards a carry, solid numbers.

3. Mike Wallace, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers

Mike Wallace is a deep threat that can stretch the field and a 2011 Pro Bowler. He’ll be only 27 next season and in his 4 years in the league he has caught 235 passes for 4,042 yards. He averages 17.5 yards a catch and can help any team open things up. The Miami Dolphins supposedly are really interested in getting him to come to South Beach.

2. Steven Jackson, RB, St. Louis Rams

Steven Jackson has been a model running back and professional during his time with the St. Louis Rams, consistently at the bottom rungs of the NFL. He’ll turn 30 this year, which is a down side given how quickly running backs talent drops off, but he is a 10,000 yard rusher who has averaged a thousand yards in his 9 NFL seasons. With the right team and game plan he could succeed and help put a team over the top. Especially like playoff teams like Green Bay, Atlanta or New England.

1. Jake Long, OT, Miami Dolphins

A solid offensive tackle who can guard your quarterback’s blind side. A relatively young player, 27, has already been to 4 Pro Bowls living up to the hype of being a number one overall draft pick. He has only missed 6 games in 5 seasons and twice earned All Pro honors. Could be the anchor you need on your offensive line.

As the NFL deadline for the franchise tag approaches (March 4th, 4pm ET) many NFL franchises are frantically trying to get deals done to avoid using the tag. The franchise tag gives a player a large single season contract, and while that one year pay out is higher than they’d get over a long term deal in a single season, it’s risky.

The NFL is a physical league and there is a lot of risk involved. If you’re injured you’ve hurt your bargaining power for that long term contract and could lose money, also the instability it brings is undesirable when a career ending injury is possible with every game.

So what 5 players will most likely dodge the NFL Franchise Tag?

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter listed 5 players that will most likely avoid the franchise tag.

1. WR Wes Welker

The New England Patriots are supposedly close to a new deal for Wes Welker. It is doubtful that Welker would want to leave to go some where besides New England, I mean he has it good with Tom Brady throwing him the ball, the only downside is listening to Giselle complain if you drop a ball. And even then just watch her yell at you.

2. OT Jake Long

A 4 time Pro Bowler and a 2 time All-Pro, the market should be high on Jake Long. The Dolphins likely want to keep him and most feel confident they can.

3. P Shane Lechler

Seriously… who uses the franchise tag on a punter, a position many consider expendable?

4. S Dashon Goldosn

A 2 time Pro Bowler and once a All-Pro, Goldson is coming off a strong season but the 49ers have a plethora of draft picks and don’t need to franchise him. He elected to come back to San Francisco last season after mulling a deal from the New England Patriots. Having played in two consecutive NFC Championship Games and a Super Bowl, the appeal of the 49ers is self explanatory.

5. TE Dustin Keller

He has been serviceable and popular with the Jets’ faithful but using the franchise tag doesn’t make sense. A franchise tag means they’re getting Top 5 pay for that position and he has never been to a pro bowl. In his defense he’s had Mark Sanchez throwing him passes. But he isn’t one of the Top 5 tight ends in the league, not to mention the Jets have cap issues as it is.

In an off-season that has been filled with big cuts by numerous teams, plenty of Pro Bowl talent is being expected to find itself sitting in prime position for signing contracts with new teams. So much so, that we could see another true “dream team” being built as teams are continuing to make new deals or cuts that will free up cap space.

Of course, in today’s NFL, offense is what sells the tickets, and there will be no shortage of talent expected to be available, especially on the Offensive Line where no fewer than 3 different Pro Bowl LTs are poised to make themselves available for a new team hungry to solve their issues on the “blindside”. To begin our list, our first big name is:

Jake Long, LT, Miami Dolphins – He is one of the 3 Pro Bowl LTs that are currently expected to land themselves in free agency, with Jermon Bushrod (Saints) and Branden Albert (Chiefs) being the other two. Now, he may not be the best out of those 3, but he’s easily the biggest name, as before his recent injury history and resulting decline of his overall play, he was an elite LT that had certainly seemed to deserve the #1 overall selection status made long ago (pun not intended). And, he’s still able to play at a high level for any team wanting to take a chance on this guy, so it’s not like he’s in his late 30′s and on his last legs. Rather, he’s but 27 years old, and again he’s still a very effective LT, it really depends on where he lands. Of course, he will still be looking for a top 5 contract in terms of LT type money, the question will be if he gets to see that money. Nevertheless, there are teams who absolutely need a LT, and his list of suitors will be a lengthy one. Possible suitors: St. Louis Rams, Arizona Cardinals, Chicago Bears.

Mike Wallace, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers – In a receiver class that may include both Wes Welker (Patriots) and Dwayne Bowe (Chiefs), he’s well on his way to becoming a free agent, a free agent that will be an extremely hot commodity in this pass happy league. What he has going for him, is his well known reputation for being a prime example on what a legitimate deep threat looks like. He’s got speed, a lot of speed, and he does not drop a lot of his passes. To summarize, you let him beat you deep, then it’s likely 6 on the board. Unlike the OT market, the other two players I mentioned (Welker & Bowe) may both be locked up by their respective teams, so he could be set to become the headliner of this WR free agency class. The type of contract he will be seeking is a contract that will pay him like a top receivier in the league, and he’s young enough at 26 as well as extremely explosive where he would provide the signing team a player who’s entering their prime. This could be a player who will be the center of a major bidding war. Potential suitors: Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, St. Louis Rams.

Steve Jackson, RB, St. Louis Rams – It would be a real shame to watch his legacy come to an end in St. Louis, as he’s been the face of their franchise for quite sometime now. And, the St. Louis Rams are aiming at bringing this bruising RB back for another few years to be the main security blanket for Sam Bradford, in an offense that could use all the talent it can put together. But, if that doesn’t happen, then he will be joining the likes of Reggie Bush (Dophins) and Michael Turner (Falcons) in a not so deep class of RBs, that teams from all over will come to pursue. He is on the gradual decline of his career, where he is 29 years old, which is ancient for a RB. But, one thing that helps his cause, is his playing style. Teams that feature a dynamic and more finess type of passing game, will take a hard look into adding a RB who can pound defenses into committing against the run game, which would then open things up like play action opportunities. Rest assure, if he does part ways with the Rams, he will sign with someone, albeit to a smaller contract given how the league shys away from long term contracts with RBs. Potential suitors: Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, Arizona Cardinals.

Tony Gonzalez, TE, Atlanta Falcons – He publically stated that the 2012 season would be his last season in the NFL, where he hoped to end his story much in the way Ray Lewis had with the Ravens by winning the Super Bowl. Well, it didn’t happen quite like that, where the Falcons were bounced by the San Francisco 49ers at home in the NFC Championship Game, and surprisingly enough, Tony Gonzalez has yet to file his retirement papers. It is well known the Atlanta Falcons’ top priority this off-season, is bringing him back for one last season, but if it doesn’t pan out then there could be teams looking to use his services short term to help boost their passing game. Seeing how the next available options could be Jared Cook (Titans) and Jermichael Finley (Packers) he will draw interest simply because of his name, as well as the perception he could sign a very small 1-2 year contract with a championship caliber that’s considerably smaller than what either Cook or Finley could fetch on the open market. His age will be a major focal point in any major negotiation (he’s 38), but seeing how he still went over 1,200 receiving yards last season, he could still help a contending team in need of a major threat in the middle. Potential suitors: Chicago Bears, Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots.

Matt Moore, QB, Miami Dolphins – To round out our top 5, we dive into the extremely shallow QB class, where there are more teams that are looking into a new starting QB, than there are available in Free Agency. Of course, the biggest names right now are Joe Flacco, who has zero chance of being moved out of Baltimore, and Alex Smith, where he’s still under contract with the 49ers, and thus only available in a trade. So, in a class that is defined by a very long list of back-ups, starting from Drew Stanton (Colts) and Jason Campbell (Bears) then going on down, Matt Moore is perhaps the only QB available in the market that could warrent any serious consideration as a starter on another team, that won’t cost any draft picks to obtain. He’s never been really impressive at any point of his career, but he’s also been named the starting QB for the season only once in his career (2011) where he didn’t perform too badly in an offense that was severely limited in it’s capabilities. He’s shown enough where he can be brought in to a team absolutely desperate for a new QB, and be allowed to compete for a job. Or, he could be brought in as a capable back-up much like what the other QBs could wind up doing. Potential suitors: Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars.

Who do you believe are the top names available in free agency? Who do you want your team to sign on the offensive side of the ball? List them all in the comments section below. And, feel free to add any of the latest cuts onto this page, as only more cuts are bound to happen as time passes from now until March 12.

The offensive tackle has emerged as one of the most important positions in the NFL. If you’re going to invest in a franchise quarterback you need insurance, and offensive tackles are the insurance. We’re sure you’re all aware of this now thanks to Sandra Bullock and “The Blind Side.”

Too many needs to address in the draft, you could bring in a sure fire NFL player via free agency and avoid the uncertainty the NFL draft brings. Teams know exactly what kind of player they’re getting, and how they can help him succeed. Feel free to hope one of these men sign with your team.

Free agency starts before the draft and begins March 12th.

So you have your franchise quarterback and now you need to amass weapons for him to pass to. No problem. Tight ends are becoming more and more a part of the NFL passing game, especially in red zones.

Free agency starts before the draft and begins March 12th.

Well here is a list of NFL tight ends who are free agents, courtesy of Rotoworld:

Will Heller

Tony Gonzalez if he doens’t retire is the best option, albeit a short term solution. But if your team is a Super Bowl contender you could have the future hall of famer.

Dallas Clark and Chris Cooley were once effective tight ends but are headed to the dreaded down slope of their careers. Fred Davis is an interesting player but is coming off an injury.

Martellus Bennett hasn’t lived up to expectations.

But this list is crowded with big names, most of whom are past their prime. But there are options available and any player can succeed in the right situation with a good quarterback throwing them the ball.

Unlike the NFL free agents at the quarterback position there is more quality here. Steven Jackson could be someone who takes a franchise to another level and make them a contender, in the right situation.

Reggie Bush has proven he could be a dual threat catching the ball and as a 1,000 yard rusher. Reggie Bush is even getting courted publicly by other NFL players, most recently Nate Burleson.

Ahmad Bradshaw has the rings and championship pedigree and still could be a featured back and succeed in this league and should have no problem finding a home.

Shonn Greene could go either way coming out of the circus that is the New York Jets.

Today it’s the wide receivers that we look at. Like the running backs, there are a number of very good players available. With so many teams around the league in need of playmakers, expect there to be fierce competition for the top free agents at this position.

1. DeSean Jackson – Eagles

With tensions high between Jackson and Eagles management, it’s highly possible that Jackson will hit the free agent market. There is the possibility that he’s given a franchise tag, as Philadelphia seek to put off signing the diva wide receiver to a big deal, but Jackson is unlikely to co-operate if that happens. Should the Eagles part way with him, Jackson will be sought after by many teams not only for his lightning speed and elusiveness as a receiver, but also for his considerable skill as a kick returner. Expect Jackson to look for a team where he will be the unquestioned #1 wideout.

Possible landing spots: STL, CHI, WAS, OAK, SF, JAC, MIN, TB, CLE, BUF

2. Vincent Jackson – Chargers

Vincent Jackson has also had his issues with his team resulting in a ten week holdout in 2010. However, Jackson has said he still wants to sign with San Diego long term. Should the Chargers find his asking price too high, expect there to be interest from teams willing to take a chance on him similar to what we saw with Sidney Rice a year ago.

Possible landing spots: CHI, OAK, SF, STL, JAC, MIN, CLE, BUF

3. Wes Welker – Patriots

Wes Welker is the definition of being a product of the Brady/Belichick system. He has thrived in the Patriots offense and in 2011 had his best season to date with an amazing 1,569 yards and 122 receptions including the astonishing 99 yard TD he scored against Miami in week 1. Many wonder if Welker will even test free agency, as he has it so good playing in Foxborough, but if Welker feels he’ll be less needed with Gronkowski and Hernandez on the scene he may test the waters. Should he do so, expect interest to be high but muted somewhat given that Welker is a slot receiver who’ll likely never be as good as he is in New England.

Possible landing spots: PHI, CLE, SF, HOU, JAC, MIA, ARI, TB, NO, CIN, BAL, DET

4. Dwayne Bowe – Chiefs

Bowe is what I like to call a Bulldog receiver. He can look really ugly some days but he’ll get in there and get physical with his opposition and come up with big plays. Bowe is extremely talented but inconsistent and has yet has failed to truly live up to the potential he showed at LSU, which made him a first round pick for the Chiefs in 2007. There is doubt as to whether Bowe will be available as he is one of the few big weapons Kansas City has. Having said that, the Chiefs drafted wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin in the first round in 2011 so clearly the writing is on the wall.

Possible landing spots: STL, CHI, WAS, JAC, SF, OAK, BUF, CLE, MIN

5. Reggie Wayne – Colts

It is a measure of how strong the free agent class is that Wayne is ranked so low here. However, it is also due to age. At 33, Wayne is nearing the end of his career and can no longer command the respect from defensive backs that he once did. This was shown true during the 2011 season in which the Colts nearly went winless and Wayne was almost powerless to stop it. Having had less than 1,000 yards receiving for the first time since 2003, it appears that Wayne has been exposed without the presence of Peyton Manning and this, along with his age, hurts his stock enormously. Expect him to sign a relatively inexpensive deal – and don’t be surprised if this means he is back with the Colts in 2012.

Possible landing spots: IND, TB, PHI, JAC, SF, CLE

6. Marques Colston – Saints

Colston is a pure physical receiver who will play hard to get to the ball and then run through defenders who don’t tackle him well. He’s talented and has done well under Drew Brees. So why so low? Injuries, inconsistency and problems with his ball handling skills have plagued Colston throughout his career. I’d be inclined to say he stays with New Orleans, but with fellow receiver Robert Meechem also a free agent this year, there is a possibility that the Saints choose to go in a different direction.

Possible landing spots: NO, STL, TB, PHI, JAC, SF, CLE

7. Brandon Lloyd – Rams

Lloyd has finally shown his ability in the past couple of years. However, both of these years he has done best in a Josh McDaniels system in Denver and St Louis. With McDaniels moving onto New England and the prospect of having Tom Brady throwing to him, it is expected that Lloyd will follow McDaniels once more and be a Patriot in 2012. If he doesn’t, he will almost certainly re-sign for the Rams.

Possible landing spots: NE, STL

Restricted – Mike Wallace, Danny Amendola

Watch out for – Mario Manningham, Steve Johnson, Robert Meechem, Plaxico Burress, Mike Sims-Walker

The 49ers beat out the division rival Arizona Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings for Edwards’ services. This is the second big signing in the past few hours for the 49ers. Earlier this evening they stole Donte Whitner out of the Cincinnati Bengals grasp at the last second.

Whether it be Alex Smith or rookie Colin Kaepernick behind center, they will have a handful of weapons at their disposal with Edwards, Michael Crabtree, Vernon Davis and Frank Gore.
