Miami may be one of the most improved offensive teams this off season, keeping Hartline and signing Mike Wallace and Dustin Keller. Unfortunately, they lost Sean Smith which leaves them with 0 CBs. They also badly need some defensive linemen to step in for them next season. With 3 picks in the first two rounds they’ll be well equipped to bolster their defense in this deep deep defensive line class.

Round 1 – Xavier Rhodes, CB, FSU – The Dolphins desperately need a CB after trading away Vontae Davis and losing Sean Smith in free agency. They don’t have to look far to find their next physical man cover corner in Florida State’s Xavier Rhodes, who can step in and close space for opposing receivers immediately. Miami needs this more than anything right now and with two 2nd round picks, they’ll have plenty of opportunities to address their defensive line needs.

Jan 4, 2013; Arlington, TX, USA; Texas A

Sleeper – Ryan Swope, WR, Texas A&M – The Dolphins all the sudden have an offense to not to be slept on with the free agent signings of Mike Wallace and Dustin Keller. Not to mention keeping a solid #2 WR in Brian Hartline. The Dolphins, for the first time since Dan Marino’s days have the chance of building one of the most powerful pass offenses in the AFC with a good system slot receiver. Guess who broke college records in this exact Mike Sherman system catching passes from the exact quarterback operating it at Texas A&M? I’ll give you a hint, he ran the same time as Tavon Austin in the NFL combine and was a top performer at WR in every category. In the right system, Ryan Swope can be the next Wes Welker and one of (if not the) highest value receiver in this draft, especially if he does in fact go as low as some of the analysts are saying.

The Jacksonville Jaguars worked out a pair of Texas A&M Aggies standouts in mid-round wide receiver Ryan Swope, who was one of the best receivers in the Big 12 during his career in College Station, and fellow- but less-heralded- wide receiver Uzoma Nwachukwu. The interesting thing is that this news doesn’t come to us from a beat writer or a draft analyst, but from a teammate of Swope’s and Nwachukwu’s. A&M right tackle Cedric Ogbuehi tweeted, “Hope (Nwachukwu) n (Swope) do work for the Jaguars today!” This tweet came on Friday, so both workouts have already passed.

Jan 04, 2013; Arlington, TX, USA; Texas A

With Cecil Shorts and Justin Blackmon locked in on the outside, it seems like the Jaguars are going to press for a slot receiver. Their situation at receiver is solid, and it is one of the strengths of this roster. The Jags did re-sign Jordan Shipley, but they might be looking for another guy to add into the mix in the middle or later rounds.

Nwachukwu bounced back last season after a subpar 2011 campaign, and he cut down on a lot of silly errors and drops in 2012. He was much more reliable for freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel than for “veteran” signal-caller Ryan Tannehill, and he has impressed some scouts in the pre-draft process. I will be interested in hearing how he performed for the Jaguars, since not much is known about this A&M wideout.

Swope is an interesting one, because concussion concerns have slid his draft stock. Even so, he runs a forty time below 4.5 and should be selected in the fourth round. After an excellent Combine and that aforementioned forty time, many are lauding Swope. However, I bet teams are really cautious about his concussion history, and the Jaguars almost certainly took a close look at him.

Wide receiver Ryan Swope was already drawing comparisons to another Texas wide receiver in the NFL, Wes Welker. And when he came out to the NFL Scouting Combine and ran a 4.34 40 yard dash on Sunday some were surprised. That was the second fastest time in the combine this year, and Swope thinks he knows why some people were surprised.

“I think a lot of people were pretty shocked. You don’t see that every day, a white guy running a 4.3,” Swope said on the Dan Patrick Show, via Pro Football Talk.

But in sports we’re constantly comparing athletes. Whether it’s Dwight Howard to Shaquille O’Neal or Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Michael Jordan.

It is inevitable that Swope would get compared to Welker. Welker is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL and with out a doubt the best white receiver currently playing in the NFL.

“I’ve been compared to Welker,” Swope said. “I think that’s a huge compliment because Welker’s a great football player. . . . But I think people decide to make a white and white comparison.”

Jordy Nelson is a more accurate comparison in Swope’s mind. Nelson is a quick receiver for the Green Bay Packers who has averaged over 15 yards a game over his career.
