Robert Griffin III

Regardless of the whole Shannahan-Griffin situation and the whole name change controversy, the Redskins actually have one of the most loaded offenses this season. First of all there is the starting QB Robert Griffin III and all that he can do. As a dual-threat QB, many have started to question whether or not Griffin can really last an entire season injury-free. Last season for the Redskins was a mixed bag, seeing as that Griffin was injured the majority of the time and the Skins failed to make the playoffs. The Redskins happened to pick up OT Morgan Moses in this off-season and thus should have a great blocking scheme on the offensive side of the football. RGIII and his (hopefully) repaired knee will be back this season, throwing touchdowns and perhaps even taking the ball for some deep runs. The complicated situation that the Redskins have right now however, is that the coaching staff has the ability to let the reigns loose on RGIII and have him score numerous touchdowns with his legs, but at the same time allowing RGIII to be susceptible to yet another injury that could leave the Redskins at another dead end.

With RGIII under center, this off-season, the Redskins have made their receiving corps absolutely deadly. Last season, the Redskins had the already lethal Pierre Garcon who caught a league-high 113 passes for 1,346 yards and five touchdowns. The Skins ranked 9th last season even with injuries to RGIII and company. Imagine that same offense with the addition of speedster DeSean Jackson from the Philadelphia Eagles. With a 24-million, 3 year deal, the Redskins made one of the best off-season bargains, getting the speedy and elusive DeSean Jackson from Philly. Not only did Jackson catch for 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns, but he was also ale to catch 82 receptions. With the combination of Garcon and Jackson for Griffin to throw to, the Redskins could potentially put up a fight in the NFC East this upcoming season. Luckily they were able to add WR Ryan Grant out of Tulane (1,039 yards , 77 receptions and 9 touchdowns in his 2013 NCAA season), Indiana TE Ted Bosler and RB Lache Seatrunk from Baylor (1,177 yards and 11 touchdowns on 158 carries in 2013) during the draft.

Coming off an injury, Griffin is as risky a pick as you can make. On one hand his abilities on the play-making side are extraordinary. However, when he’s playing big, he has the potential for big things. Griffin has the tools tomake 2014 a great season. He has the leg and he has the arm to make it to the top. The question is whether or nor Griffin is up to the challenge. I believe he is.
