1. Brian Hoyer, Cleveland Browns
Brian Hoyer was impressive during the first half of the 2014 season with the Cleveland Browns, but unfortunately couldn’t keep his success going throughout the entire year. Even though he couldn’t lead the Browns to a playoff spot, he did play his way into a new contract this offseason.
Cleveland is likely going to attempt to re-sign Hoyer with all of the uncertainty surrounding Johnny Manziel, but it is unclear if he is interested in returning. There is a lot of drama surrounding the Browns’ organization, especially with Manziel and star wide receiver Josh Gordon. Hoyer will have contract offers elsewhere, but they might not give him much of a chance to start.
Hoyer played in 14 regular season games in 2014, throwing for 3,326 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.
At the end of the season, he began to fall apart. Whether that was because he was under so much pressure, running out of energy, or simply coming back down to reality it may never be known. That being said, he is by far the best quarterback on the free agent market looking ahead to 2015.
