1. Quarterback

It’s as obvious as it is saddening.

The New York Jets haven’t had a franchise quarterback since Joe Namath. Some even call Namath overrated.

With my sincerest apologies to Ken O’Brien and Chad Pennington, Mike Maccagnan needs to do everything in his power to obtain the Jets’ first franchise quarterback in over four decades. It remains a slippery slope for if a franchise, for if they pick the wrong guy in the Top 10, it sets the them back a few years.

Are the powers that be who run the Jets enamored enough with Marcus Mariota to make him the next face of the franchise?

It seems they’re not.

Although crazier things have happened, let’s go on the premise they’re not in love enough to make him a Top 10 guy. If that becomes the case then Maccagnan will have to go the middle rounds route or wait an entire year.

Speculation about possible names aside, this strategy can and has worked in the past.

Will Maccagnan be able to pull it off?
