8. Tom Brady, 2010
Tom Brady is currently in the middle of the DeflateGate scandal and appealing a four-game suspension, but in 2010 he was putting together one of the finest seasons of his career. Although it wasn’t the best season of his career as that can be found later on the countdown. In 2010, Brady took home the AP MVP award and his statistics from that season are incredibly interesting.
The Patriots’ quarterback threw for 3,900 yards and 36 touchdowns in 2009. Those are impressive numbers, but the truly jaw-dropping statistic was his number of interceptions. Brady threw just four interceptions throughout the entire season. That is what puts this season well above the two previous MVP seasons from Manning. Plus, his 111.0 rating in 2009 didn’t hurt either. However, he ran for just 30 yards and one touchdown as the season went on. That lack of a diverse attack is what keeps him from being ahead of the player’s season at No. 7 on this countdown.
Brady is often thought of as a ‘playoff quarterback’ or a ‘crunch-time leader’ but seasons like 2010 prove that he is much more than that. He is an elite statistical quarterback and an unquestioned winner. That said, the scandals in New England in recent years will forever follow him — even to Canton.
