7. Aaron Rodgers, 2014

The reigning AP MVP is none other than the Green Bay Packers’ leader Aaron Rodgers. In 2014, he battled injuries turned in the best individual season of anyone in the league. This was Rodgers’ second MVP award, but his better MVP season can be found later in this ranking. Last year the closest player to Rodgers in MVP voting was Houston Texans’ defensive end J.J. Watt. I’m not going to lie, I wouldn’t have complained had Watt taken home the award.

As it is, Rodgers threw for 4,381 yards and 38 touchdowns last year and boasted a rating of 112.2 — so he clearly deserved consideration for the award. However, it was his lack of interceptions that really won him the the MVP in 2014. He threw just five interceptions all year. Although he is also a dangerous runner as he accounted for 269 yards on the ground as well as two touchdowns.

Clearly his offensive production is at an elite level, although there were still six AP MVP seasons that came out ranked ahead of his 2014 season. People will definitely remember Rodgers’ 2014 season for years to come, but it wouldn’t shock me if he wins this award a couple more times before he hangs up his cleats for good. I mean, Manning won the AP MVP award at age 37 and Rodgers is only 31 years old.
