Chicago Tribune reporter Rich Campbell suggests cornerback Kyle Fuller could lose his starting spot if he fails to produce or show the passion needed to hold the position.
The previous Bears’ regime, with Phil Emery as the architect, drafted Fuller in 2014. Last year, the first-round pick started off rocky as he sat on the bench in the second half of the Week 2 Arizona Cardinals game last September.
Nonetheless, it’s highly unlikely the coaching staff abruptly gives up on Fuller. Despite his benching in the previous season, the Bears don’t have alternative options ready to challenge No. 1 wideouts on the opposing offense. Chicago selected one hybrid cornerback-safety in fourth-round pick Deiondre’ Hall and two safeties to strengthen the secondary.
Though, the coaching staff places a high premium on takeaways. It’s possible Fuller may struggle to hold onto his position if Tracy Porter, Bryce Callahan and Hall show the ability to force turnovers during the preseason and early regular season.
