Atlanta Falcons: Matt Schaub

A few years ago, Matt Schaub was struggling to find a consistent home in the NFL after bouncing around to a few different teams when the Houston Texans decided to part ways with the veteran quarterback. But over the last couple of years, Schaub has found a comfortable home again with the Atlanta Falcons, only instead of starting, he’s actually the backup to Matt Ryan.

For reasons that don’t need to be explained, Ryan isn’t at risk to lose the starting job anytime soon since the Falcons are going to keep him under center for as long as he can play. When looking at the value of a backup quarterback, it’s easy to understand why Atlanta would want an experienced player like Schaub in case anything were to ever happen to Ryan injury wise, but also taking a younger approach may not be the worst idea ever.

Schaub isn’t getting any younger being 37, and the Falcons could always wind up taking a chance on a much younger quarterback with potential like Kurt Benkert. The former Virginia star has a long way to go when it comes to proving he belongs in the NFL, but also Atlanta needs to question if Schaub is worth keeping around instead of going with someone else.
