28. Blake Bortles, Jacksonville Jaguars

He keeps winning, which looks good for the Jacksonville Jaguars, but how much of that is because of Blake Bortles. On Sunday, their defense was great again, holding the Giants to just 15 points. Linebacker Myles Jack also scored on a pick-six, which means that just 13 of the Jaguars 20 points were courtesy of their offense.

Bortles finished with a pretty mediocre stat line of 176 yards on 18-of-33 passing. He had one touchdown and an interception. He’s still not careful with the ball and doesn’t push it downfield either. They went to the AFC North thanks to the defense and ground game, and that’s going to again be their calling card this year.

27. Mitch Trubisky, Chicago Bears

23 completions for 171 yards isn’t exactly lighting the world on fire, but Mitch Trubisky actually looked a lot better than those numbers suggested for the Chicago Bears. In his first game with new head coach Matt Nagy and offensive coordinator Mark Helfirch he looked to have a better feel for the offense and made some good decisions.

There’s still a lot of improvement needed to justify how high he was selected. Having said that, it also needs to be noted he’s still so raw after starting only one season at North Carolina. It does appear he has the right staff working with him now though.
