2018 NFL Quarterback Power Rankings, Week 2: Pretenders start to fall
By Randy Gurzi
26. Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Wouldn’t it be great to find out that Ryan Fitzpatrick has always been great, but has been playing a career-long prank on us all? It seems like once every three years or so he comes out and just lights up a defense. He did that again in Week 1 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers while leading them to 48 points in an upset victory over New Orleans.
Fitzpatrick was 21-of-28 with 417 yards and four passing touchdowns. He added another rushing score and had 36 yards on the ground and picked up a late first down with his legs to seal the victory. He might make it hard for them to turn back to Jameis Winston once his suspension is served.
25. Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions looked like a really poorly coached football team. While that looks bad on Matt Patricia, it’s also a huge knock on Jim Bob Cooter, who Patricia retained as the offensive coordinator when he became the head coach in Detroit.
While they were bad in all phases of the game, the offense was especially horrid. Matthew Stafford threw four interceptions in the game as they were smoked by the Jets. Stafford looked uneasy and was nothing like the player we’ve seen in the past. The usual line is to not panic after one game, but this was so ugly.
