3. Dak Prescott is not getting an extension

During the offseason, there was talk about Dak Prescott getting a big contract extension from the Cowboys. He entered the offseason with a 22-10 record as a starter but was still living mainly off the fame from his 13-3 rookie season in 2016 where he won the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award.

In 2017, the team struggled to a 9-7 finish and Prescott especially had his issues when running back Ezekiel Elliott wasn’t playing. There was also plenty of snaps for Prescott without left tackle Tyron Smith, which made us aware of one thing — Prescott needs too much around him to go right in order to be a consistent passer.

Yes, he can still find ways to squeak out wins and he can be a big weapon running the ball. We saw him do that in Week 2, but he only ran twice against Seattle which made no sense considering how ineffective everything they tried outside of Elliott was on offense.

While Prescott hoped to earn an extension this season, that’s not happening. He’s thrown for 170 yards, 160, and now 168 with a total of three touchdowns and two picks. No, the receivers around him aren’t great, but that’s not a good enough excuse.

He could still get another contract, but it’s not happening after this season. He will be playing on his rookie deal in 2019 as well.
