Finish with 10 or more wins

The Seahawks missed the postseason last year despite going 9-7. So going 9-7 doesn’t guarantee a team will make the playoffs. Technically getting 10 wins doesn’t either but it will raise Seattle’s chances immensely.

Since the Seahawks are already 2-3 they only have room for three more losses. One of those losses will be the Rams. Another will likely come at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs. The Seahawks also have to play the several other competitive teams such as the Carolina Panthers and Minnesota Vikings, along with a few others. There are going to be some close games and Seattle can not afford to lose to bad teams. If they do that then they’ll be facing an uphill battle against some of the best teams in the league.

In case it wasn’t clear from the last page I don’t expect Seattle to win their division, in fact I think it’s impossible as long as the Rams are around. So Seattle will be vying for one of those Wild Card spots. Their strongest competitors for the spot will be the Panthers and possibly two NFC North teams. Every team in the NFC North actually has the same record as the Seahawks or better. With any luck competition within the division will sink a few of those teams.

As for the other teams, NFC East is in the middle of self-destructing so the Seahawks won’t have to worry about a Wild Card challenger from that division. And the bottom half of the NFC South is also having a bit of a meltdown right now, removing them from the conversation.

It’s still fairly early on in the season to be predicting the playoffs, that’s why I’m saying the Seahawks will need at least ten wins. Who knows, they might not need that many in the end but for now I’ll keep the total high.
