There’s plenty that can be said about Junior Seau, especially in regards to his post-football career and the unfortunate ending of his life. However, instead of dwelling on the ugly, I want to focus solely on all the good Seau did for the game and the then-San Diego Chargers franchise.

For most of his NFL career, Seau was a superstar when it came to playing the outside linebacker position. Sean was truly dominant edge rusher and run defender who made life miserable for whoever was assigned to block him. He won with power, fluidity and a suddenness at the point of attack that couldn’t be avoided.

Although he spent time with the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots, all of Seau’s best seasons came with the Chargers. And while the stats are nice, what really helped the Southern California native shine on Sundays was his relentless work ethic and never-ceasing motor. He simply outworked his opponents, beating them with an unmatched willingness to win.

When the clock struck zero on his NFL career, Seau had amassed 12 Pro Bowl selections, 10 All-Pro honors, an NFL Defensive Player of the Year award and an inclusion on the NFL 1990s All-Decade Team. The amount of praise and recognition he received from around the league was immense.

No matter what happened after his retirement, Seau will always be remembered for the pure, passionate player he was.
