4. Jim Harbaugh, Head Coach, Michigan

With his brother out of the picture, the younger Harbaugh is in the sights of Jets fans. He did wonders with the 49ers, even though they fell short in the Super Bowl. The fact that he did that with Colin Kaepernick, and Sam Darnold is perceived to be much better is a plus.

There are two negatives with Harbaugh, though. One is definite, and the other is potential. The definite one is that he hasn’t stayed long in any place he’s been. If he leaves Michigan, it’ll mean that he has yet to be a head coach anywhere for longer than four seasons, and that’s not a glaring negative given the young quarterback on the roster.

The second is only a potential negative. Harbaugh may want the Bill Belichick/early Pete Carroll treatment if he returns to the NFL. The reason he left the 49ers was due to a rift between him and the front office. If he comes back to the NFL, he may want full control over personnel decisions. Christopher Johnson may not be willing to give him that, and that may ultimately may keep him from signing.

Even though he has two glaring negatives, the first one can change given the circumstances, and the second may not be an issue to begin with. His offensive acumen warrants a consideration, even if he doesn’t end up here.
