AAF Power Rankings: Orlando Apollos dominate Week 1 in The Alliance
6. San Diego Fleet
Perhaps the most notable thing that happened to the San Diego Fleet in Week 1 of The Alliance was quarterback Mike Bercovici getting plastered in a clip that really helped the league start to go viral right out of the gate. The good news was that he was fine and stayed in the game, but the bad is that he was injured later on and had t leave. Worse for the Fleet is that they put up just six points on the day as their offense was inconsistent and turnover-prone.

If there’s a silver-lining for this team, though, it’s the fact that the defense showed up big in a bend-don’t-break type of way. They allowed just 15 points in their losing effort while Damontre Moore showed up big as a pass-rusher, registering 1.5 sacks on the day, and while they came up with two interceptions as a team. The offense needs to find its footing, but they can hang their hats on defense for now.
5. Salt Lake City Stallions
Despite splitting time at quarterback between Josh Woodrum and Matt Linehan, the Salt Lake City Stallions offense actually showed some solid life in their season-opening loss to the Arizona Hotshots. They put 22 points up on the board, the fourth-most of any team in the AAF in Week 1 of the inaugural season. Subsequently, there is reason for hope that this group can continue to grow and put points on the board, especially if they find their stability at quarterback with Linehan looking a bit better.
Where this team has issues, though, is on defense as they were thrown all over and allowed 38 points against Arizona. Forcing no turnovers and registering only two sacks in their first game of the season, the Stallions have real questions to answer on that side of the ball, which could turn out to be their Achilles’ heel.
