2019 NFL Mock Draft: Kyler Murray climbs in Post-combine two-round projection

8. Detroit Lions: Clelin Ferrell, EDGE, Clemson
With Ezekiel Ansah likely out the door — and even if he were to stick around — the Detroit Lions could use another pass rusher. With the No. 8 overall pick, they decide to address this area of concern and they land Clemson’s Clelin Ferrell.
He’s a complete edge defender who can hold his own against the run, but it’s his ability to get after the quarterback that sets him apart. And according to Joe Marino of The Draft Network, Ferrell has a multitude of ways to get around the tackles and make life hard on signal-callers.
"As a pass rusher, Ferrell illustrates multiple ways to generate consistent pressure on the quarterback but it all stems from his first step quickness and economy of motion to get home. His steps and stride length are in unison with his plan of attack and it makes him highly effective. His go-to move is a chop-rip that is executed with precise timing to counter the offensive tackles punch and diminishing his surface area that enables him to corner the edge track."
Detroit needs to make a lot more moves than this to become a competitive franchise again, and an entire re-build under head coach Matt Patricia could be necessary. Having said that, this is a good star as Ferrell makes the defense much stronger up front.
