NFL Free Agency 2019: Predicting the Indianapolis Colts biggest moves
3. Re-sign CB Pierre Desir
Under coordinator Matt Eberflus, the Indianapolis Colts’ defense came a long way in a short time this past season. One year after the club allowed the third-most total yards in the league and finished 28th in the NFL against the pass, Frank Reich’s squad was 11th in total defense and was 16th vs. the pass. The Colts surrendered only 33 offensive touchdowns in 16 regular-season contests, with 21 of those scores coming through the air.
In September of 2017, then-new general manager Chris Ballard grabbed cornerback Pierre Desir off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks — who he never played a game for. A 2015 fourth-round draft choice by the Browns, he spent two years in Cleveland before finding work in San Diego with the Chargers in 2016. He would eventually play five games for the Bolts that year.
But he’s now spent the past two seasons with the Colts and really emerged into a solid performer. In 2017, he played in nine games, finished with 32 tackles, one interception and seven passes defensed.
This past season, Desir finished fourth on the club with 79 stops, knocked down eight passes, forced two fumbles and came away with a pair of takeaways. It would be somewhat of a surprise let him get away later this month.
