TRADE: Giants send 17th pick to Arizona for Josh Rosen, QB

Here’s where things get crazy — but also highly profitable — for the New York Giants. When the rumors that the Arizona Cardinals might take Kyler Murray with the first pick in the draft first surfaced, I was highly skeptical of their validity after they traded up to take Josh Rosen last year.

However, every move since that time has made it more believable that Arizona general manager Steve Keim and head coach Kliff Kingsbury might actually do it. Be it Kingsbury’s infamous comments from when he was at Texas Tech, Keim’s ominous “for now” at the NFL Combine, or even the fact that the Cardinals are the betting favorites to land Murray at No. 1 now, the signs are there.

Thus, my belief is that the Cardinals actually do it. And, with that in this mock draft, they look for a trade partner for Josh Rosen. It just so happens that, as the Giants just traded Odell Beckham Jr., they have an extra first-round pick. While it might be rich for some, it seems like a perfect match that the Giants would send Arizona this extra pick to grab Rosen.

For one, the benefit of having two first-round picks is that the Giants can now trade one of them and still have capital left to get a premier player, which they did by taking Burns at No. 6. On top of that, Rosen would be QB1 in this draft class — despite whatever the Cardinals do — and that’s tremendous value to essentially get him for the 17th overall pick.

Though Rosen was awful as a rookie, he was in the absolute worst situation for him with an abysmal offensive line in front of him and a pedestrian offense. Coming to New York, who has invested in the offensive front, he would be better protected and be in a much better position to succeed. For the Giants eyeing a successor to Eli Manning, trading for Rosen is their best option.
