2019 NFL Draft: Matching top prospects with Marvel’s Avengers
By Ryan Roberts
Iron Man: D.K. Metcalf, WR, Ole Miss
One of the big highlights of the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine was Daniel Jeremiah comparing Ole Miss wide receiver D.K. Metcalf’s body to the Batman suit. Let’s be honest, it is much closer to Tony Stark’s ingeniously designed Iron Man suit. Metcalf boats one of the greatest athletic profiles ever witnessed at any position, not just wide receiver.
He has the ability to kick on the rocket boots, accelerating past defensive backs with regularity. Jet propulsion is on display constantly, consistently elevating above defenders to the catch point, establishing proper position in jump ball situations. If that weren’t enough, his suit is equipped with notable inhuman strength to fend off potential threats to him physically, consistently tossing aside even the most tenacious corners.
More from NFL Spin Zone
- Dallas Cowboys made the trade everyone else should have made
- Pittsburgh Steelers rookie sleeper everyone should be talking about
- Anthony Richardson putting jaw-dropping talent on display immediately
- Denver Broncos’ stud wide receiver might be out for a while
- Washington Commanders: Three takeaways from win over Ravens
Upgrades by Tony Stark’s famous Iron Man suit will most certainly be needed in the final bout with the evil dictator Thanos. Good thing for my picks, those modifications have already been made for Metcalf. With the body of a god, he is fully equipped and ready for the most important in the Marvel Cinematic Universe up until this point.
Thor: Nick Bosa, EDGE, Ohio State
The spawn of Asgardians and Zeus, this god of thunder could stake a good argument as the most powerful Avenger overall. His lineage, combined with brash personality, cement him as one of the most likable characters in the entire MCU. The proud lineage has shaped Thor into the powerful leader we see before us, standing as the only character thus far to bring pain to Thanos, as he dug Stormbreaker through the villain’s chest at the end of Infinity War.
This lineage falls on Nick Bosa as well, having a father (John Bosa), uncle (Eric Kumerow) and brother (Joey Bosa) who were all first-round selections in their respective drafts, and have paved the way for his family legacy so far. So grab your hammer (or Stormbreaker) Nick, I dub thee god of thunder.
While we are at the point in the evaluation process where people are attempting to poke holes in Nick Bosa’s game, he has stood firm as one of the premier talents in the 2019 NFL Draft class. Perhaps not the sexiest athletic profile in the class, Bosa makes his money with speed to power conversion, incredible strength and brutish flare.
Overlook if you’d like, Bosa stands tall as my personal No. 1 overall player and biggest hope in taking down the man who has run professional football for far too long.
