Detroit Lions: 7-Round 2019 NFL mock draft, version 4.0
By Zac Snyder
Linebacker for the second pick in a row? Yeah, I did it. Would the Lions? I’m not sure, but I’m not sure what they are doing at the position overall. The Lions went hard in free agency to fill needs and add depth but the status quo has ruled at linebacker. They must have some level of contentedness with what they have but being content can be a recipe for disaster in the NFL.
Like Tranquill a pick earlier, Sione Takitaki has some appealing attributes and tested out really well in the pre-draft process. Maybe neither guy pans out but even if one does, spending two late round picks to get one solid contributor is a small investment.
It was time to add an edge player to round out this mock draft after not adding one earlier. Options were running thin but Wyoming’s Carl Granderson is one late-round option who combines some size, athleticism and traits that warrant giving him a chance. Granderson is tall and long, suggesting he may be able to add the weight and strength necessary to be a defensive end instead of an edge tweener.
Granderson’s game requires some development and refinement but could warrant a draft pick to work with him through camp before possibly spending time on a practice squad.
