2019 NFL Mock Draft: Kinnan’s final first-round projection
By Cory Kinnan
While the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in a prime position to trade back out of the second overall pick to a team that may want to jump up and grab Missouri quarterback Drew Lock after Murray and Haskins fly off the board, here they select Josh Allen, pass rusher from the University of Kentucky.
While Devin White is still on the board, the Bucs already have Lavonte David and Deone Bucannon who can play linebacker in new defensive coordinator Todd Bowles’ 3-4 scheme. They are still in need of a bookend to the line to play opposite of Shaquil Barrett, who they signed to a one-year deal this offseason.
While White is a talented prospect, edge rushers are at a much higher premium in the league than linebackers are. With two starting caliber linebackers already on the roster, the Buccaneers can afford to wait until a later round to add one in the draft.
Allen meets the needs of Tampa Bay, who are supposedly in love with White, and would give them possibly one of the most improved pass rushing attacks after signing Barrett and now drafting Allen. To round out the top-five, the Buccaneers bring the All-American pass rusher to Tampa Bay.
