2019 NFL Mock Draft: Kinnan’s final first-round projection
By Cory Kinnan
The New York Giants are really going to sit back and let quarterbacks fly off the board for another year. A pass rusher will be the target with the sixth pick in the draft for the Giants, and here they select Michigan’s Rashan Gary.
Having the ability to play on the edge or as an interior defensive end in 3-4 defenses, Gary becomes a versatile weapon for the Giants to deploy. While his production at Michigan does not match that of a former five-star recruit, his athletic ability has him looking like a top-15 lock.
Of all edge rushers at the combine, Gary ranked in the 91st percentile in the vertical jump (38 inches) and the 94th percentile with his 40-yard dash time (4.58 seconds). A man who is over 6-4 and 277 pounds should not be able to lift off and move the way Gary does.
If he can put it all together in the NFL, which he could not in college, Gary could become a premier pass rusher in this league. While he ranks as the 24th prospect on this writer’s big board, he manages to land in the top 10 to the Giants with the sixth overall pick in the draft.
