2019 NFL Mock Draft: Redskins, Patriots trade up in at-the-buzzer projection
11. Cincinnati Bengals: Drew Lock, QB, Missouri
Many thought that it would never happen, but the Cincinnati Bengals cut ties with Marvin Lewis after the 2018 season, bringing in Zac Taylor, who worked under Sean McVay, to take up the reins. However, there have recently been rumblings that the Bengals might not stop there in getting a new look and that they could have eyes for replacing Andy Dalton with a new quarterback. Welcome to the Queen City, Drew Lock.
Lock becomes the fourth quarterback to come off the board in the first 11 picks of the 2019 NFL Draft, but he’s solid value for Cincinnati considering. While the Missouri product needs more development with his footwork and accuracy, he took positive strides in 2018 as he got comfortable in a more pro-style offense. With a cannon on his shoulder, he’s a guy the Bengals can look to build around and groom behind Dalton for a year as they start anew.
12. Green Bay Packers: T.J. Hockenson, TE, Iowa
The Green Bay Packers, owners of two first-round picks in the 2019 NFL Draft, finally come up on the clock in this mock draft. At one point, No. 12 seemed like prime position for the Packers to tab an edge rusher, but after signing Preston Smith and Za’Darius Smith in free agency, they have more options. One such option is Iowa tight end T.J. Hockenson, who they take here.
Hockenson is as polished and well-rounded of a tight end prospect as you’ll see. While he might not be an otherworldly athlete like his Iowa teammate, Noah Fant, he’s still plenty athletic for his size, while also having a great grasp of both blocking concepts and route running. He’s a versatile piece that can be deployed in numerous sets and areas of the field and have a positive impact on Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense.
