2019 NFL Mock Draft: Redskins, Patriots trade up in at-the-buzzer projection
13. Miami Dolphins: Andre Dillard, OT, Washington State
From the outside looking in, it would seem that the Miami Dolphins are set on a full-blown rebuild. However, they’re in a tough spot for the 2019 NFL Draft as they weren’t quite bad enough to grab one of the top-tier players in this class. They could be a candidate to trade down and acquire more capital for their rebuild, but in this mock draft, they stay put with the 13th pick and take Andre Dillard to help solidify things up front.
Dillard, coming out of Mike Leach‘s air-raid offense at Washington State, is a pass-blocking stud. What’s more, he has the strength, footwork and athleticism to come along as a run-blocker with simply getting more reps in that regard. As the Dolphins will likely roll with Ryan Fitzpatrick this season and go after their future quarterback in 2020, building a formidable offensive line is a great start to protect a future investment.
14. Buffalo Bills (via Falcons): Christian Wilkins, DT, Clemson
As the offseason began, many people had pegged the Buffalo Bills as an obvious candidate to target offensive line in the 2019 draft. However, after doing great work adding veterans up front in free agency, their options on draft night are now more plentiful. As such, they don’t go after an offensive lineman at this point and, instead, they look to get stronger up front on defense by taking Christian Wilkins.
Though Buffalo signed Star Lotulelei last year and took Harrison Phillips in the third round in 2018, Wilkins is a piece they could still use in a big way. While some may say that the Clemson product isn’t as elite as some of his draft class counterparts, the big man is a leader on a defensive unit with a relentless motor, great energy and a litany of game film that shows him being an all-around threat in the middle of a defensive line.
