Round 2, Pick 49: Ben Banogu, EDGE, TCU

The Colts weren’t able to generate a ton of pressure last year. They’ve been working to change that this offseason with additions like Justin Houston, and they grabbed another one in the form of Ben Banogu. He was a productive player during his three seasons in school, as he finished with 20 tackles after he wrapped up his collegiate career.

Not only did Banogu create a good amount of pressure, but he also did a good job of setting the edge against the run. He had 45 tackles for loss in three years, which includes 18 in his final season.

The Colts have a premium on guys that can make an impact in run and pass defenses. That’s what Banogu brings to the table. He also did a good job of causing fumbles, as he had at least two in every season.

Keeping your edge rushers fresh is a major key to creating pressure for the entirety of the game. That’s what they’re able to do when they have more rushers in their stable. Banogu may not start on Day 1 for them, but that’s okay as they have other guys at those spots ahead of him. Banogu shows the potential to be more than just a rotational guy, and that’s what the Colts are hoping that they are getting in the middle of the second round.
