Round 2, Pick 59: Parris Campbell, WR, Ohio State

The Colts have been struggling to get a consistent wide receiver presence outside of T.Y. Hilton since he became one of the better receivers in the NFL. They signed Devin Funchess this offseason, but they needed to get another playmaker at that position. They got one with Parris Campbell out of Ohio State. He tied for fastest 40-yard dash time among wide receivers at the combine and he can absolutely blaze down the field.

With Funchess and the team’s two tight ends operating in the middle of the field, Campbell and Hilton will be in charge of taking the top off the defense. His speed will be a threat on plays across the middle of the field as well.

There won’t be a lot of cornerbacks that can chase him on long drag routes near the line of scrimmage. Campbell is also a great player in the red zone with 12 receiving touchdowns last season.

He can play in the slot, and the Colts are going to actively work to get him the ball in space where he can make plays happen for them. Think of bubble screens with a pulling lineman or end-arounds that get him the ball in situations that allow him to use that athleticism. It will be similar to how the Kansas City Chiefs use Tyreek Hill.
