Round 3, Pick 89: Bobby Okereke, LB, Stanford

This was one of the more humorous pick announcements on the night as Pat McAfee was cracking jokes before he stumbled through the pronunciation. Okereke is a great athlete that fits perfectly next to last year’s second-round draft pick Darius Leonard who ended up being an All-Pro. The modern inside linebacker is able to cover from sideline-to-sideline and the Colts now have two of them.

Okereke had 94 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks last year. The guy is an athlete that plays around the line of scrimmage at a high level. He was also a decent coverage linebacker with five pass breakups last season.

This pick also makes a ton of sense because the Colts have long had an affinity for players out of Stanford. They like the high IQ that most of the players come out with, and Okereke is no different.

The Colts will likely want to keep Leonard fresh and they also want to make sure that defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus has multiple looks that he can throw at opposing offenses. Blitzing linebackers from every angle accomplishes that goal. Okereke may be somewhat of an unknown right now, but he won’t be one for very long.

Final Grade: B-
