Grading every NFL team’s 2019 offseason

Oakland Raiders
Armed with three picks in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders had all eyes on them. They raised some eyebrows when general manager Mike Mayock and head coach Jon Gruden sent all their scouts home for the draft since they couldn’t trust them. Then, they raised more when they took Clelin Ferrell fourth overall.
While that felt like a reach, it wasn’t as bad as Daniel Jones at six. Oakland then added Josh Jacobs at running back and Johnathan Abram at safety with their final picks in that round. They continued to go after Clemson players, landing Trayvon Mullen and Hunter Renfrow. An underrated move came in the fourth when they added cornerback Isaiah Johnson out of Houston.
This draft felt better than the last, but that move at No. 4 really stands out. Still, he fills a need and should be a good player.
Another big storyline for Oakland this offseason was the addition of Antonio Brown. The former Pittsburgh Steelers wideout was sent packing after a feud with the team and serves as the No. 1 receiver for the Raiders now. He will join Tyrell Williams, who earned a big contract after his play in Los Angeles with the Chargers.
They filled a lot of holes but didn’t always get the best value with their picks. They still have some room to grow and adding the controversial Brown could backfire. If it all works, they’re brilliant. If not, this Gruden-era could end quickly.
