Grading every NFL team’s 2019 offseason

San Francisco 49ers
Another team who will rely solely on the health of one player to determine their 2019 fate is the San Francisco 49ers. Jimmy Garoppolo was their starter for just three games last season before tearing his ACL and the season fell apart. They didn’t add much help for him on offense in free agency either — although they did get a steal in landing Tevin Coleman.
He should be able to take over for Jerick McKinnon, who made an awful lot of money last season in free agency but also suffered a torn ACL. While the move to pay McKinnon seems like a tough pill to swallow now seeing what they paid for Coleman, it’s not as bad as what’s going on with Solomon Thomas. The former No. 3 overall pick lost his job to Nick Bosa, who was the No. 2 overall pick this season.
Bosa isn’t the only new edge rusher either, as they gave the Chiefs a second-round pick for Dee Ford. They also went for a new linebacker in Kwon Alexander, but they seemed to pay him an awful lot of money considering he too is recovering from a torn ACL. Not to mention, he’s played a full 16 games just once in his career. There’s a lot of risk there, and their previous moves look worse every day.
