9. Washington Redskins sign Landon Collins
It’s one thing to sign a big-name free agent who can improve your team. It’s another to do that while robbing from a divisional rival. That’s exactly what happened when the Washington Redskins signed Landon Collins away from the New York Giants.
A former second-round pick out of Alabama, Collins will be eager to prove the Giants made a mistake in letting him walk. He spoke about his wish to play for just one team his entire career and said New York didn’t give him the chance to do that.
"“I’m starting a new chapter and I’m on a good team,” Collins said via Ryan Dunleavy of NJ.com“When I left the Giants, I was kind of heartbroken. I loved the Giants. When I started there, I wanted to finish there. I wanted to be one of those guys to finish his career on one team. They didn’t give me the opportunity to do that. It’s a business. I can’t do anything about that.”"
Collins went on to say no offer was ever even made by New York. That opened the door for the Redskins to come in and give him a six-year, $84 million deal.
A bruising strong safety, Collins had 329 tackles in his first four seasons in the NFL. He’s a tone-setter with his punishing hits, but can also play in coverage. 2018 was his first campaign with no interceptions, but he does have eight in his career, including five in his second campaign.
