Guard: Brandon Scherff, Washington Redskins

If there’s any young guard in the NFL who deserves a huge pay bump, it’s Brandon Scherff. While he may be coming off an injury-shortened 2018 season, the former top pick of the Washington Redskins has quickly asserted himself as one of the league’s most dominant interior blockers.

I mean, that is why he was taken No. 5 overall back in 2015, when drafting a guard that high seemed asinine — unless elite talent was involved. As it so happens, Scherff lived up to that “elite” billing, proving to be an indispensable part of the D.C. front five. Just look at this past season, when things began falling apart after he went down with a torn pectoral in Week 9.

Yes, I know the Washington offensive line had other problems at that point, but the loss of Schreff was certainly a punch to the gut.

Either way you slice it, the Iowa product figures to be a vital piece of the puzzle for the franchise’s future. Especially with the Redskins hoping they’ve found their quarterback of the future in Dwayne Haskins, they’ll want to be sure that his protection is priority numero uno. Locking down Scherff would be a great way to do that.

It may be difficult to top the $14 million annual average Zack Martin is getting, or the $13.3 million annual average Andrew Norwell received. In my opinion, though, Schreff is worth the investment for the Redskins.
