Cleveland Browns: Ranking 5 best moves of 2019 offseason
By Cory Kinnan
1. Trading for Odell Beckham Jr.
Not only is the trade for Odell Beckham Jr. the biggest and best move of the Browns this offseason, but it may be the biggest move made in the entire league. It is not every day that a superstar such as Beckham Jr. gets dealt, and it is even less likely to land him at the price the Browns did.
Only giving up a mid-first-round pick, a third-round pick and Jabrill Peppers, Cleveland now has Beckham, perhaps the best wide receiver in the league, under contract through 2023. While losing Peppers hurts as he was a top-10 graded safety according to Pro Football Focus (subscription required), the price of their new wide receiver was an absolute theft of the Giants.
The picks surrendered in the deal turned into Clemson defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence and Old Dominion edge rusher Oshane Ximines. Needless to say, the Browns came out as severe winners, landing a premier receiver in his prime, at just the age of 26 years old.
Mayfield is now being considered a potential candidate to win MVP in 2019, and that has much to do with the players the Browns have placed around him. At minimum, Beckham will give the Browns 1,000 yards and five touchdowns, more than any receiver had a year ago, putting this trade as the best move of the offseason.
