One of the best special teamers for the Packers last season was rookie safety Raven Greene. The former undrafted free agent defied the odds by making the final 53-man roster and was a key contributor on special teams from the get-go.

Greene still has a long ways to go before he could see significant action on defense, but it helps that Green Bay’s depth at safety is paper thin. After starters Darnell Savage and Adrian Amos are Josh Jones — who requested a trade earlier this offseason — Greene, Tray Matthews and Mike Tyson.

It’s likely the Packers move on from Jones, which means Greene could be thrust into a larger role from scrimmage. Yet, many casual fans have forgotten about him; probably because he only appeared in eight games last season.

Greene took snaps as the No. 3 safety during OTAs this past month, indicating the Packers have a fair deal of confidence in him going forward. Greene could see a big role as a dime linebacker in Mike Pettine’s defense.
