2. Jazz Ferguson, WR

I was a little surprised when Jazz Ferguson didn’t hear his name called in the 2019 NFL Draft. Perhaps that was because he had to downgrade from LSU to Northwestern State in college. With the Northwestern State Demons, Ferguson posted 66 receptions for 1,117 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2018.

He was invited to the combine and received a 5.24 draft grade from NFL.com, the equivalent of grading out as a backup or special teams player. At 6-5, 227 pounds, Ferguson has monstrous size and physical attributes. He showed how advantageous his build is twice against the Broncos.

Ferguson made a great adjustment to bring in a tough catch early in the third quarter. The ball was slightly behind Ferguson and on his back shoulder. Even though he was closely guarded, Ferguson spun his body around to receive the ball and he held on despite multiple defenders closing in on him.

That wasn’t Ferguson’s only circus catch on the night though. With a little under four minutes left in the third quarter, he made a great six-yard touchdown catch. This time, the defensive back anticipated where the ball was going by reading the quarterback’s eyes. Ferguson was able to keep his body between the defender and the ball though. He caught the pass right at the goal line and was able to turn the play into six points.

Ferguson finished the game with four receptions for 54 yards and that touchdown. Even though the Seahawks drafted three wide receivers, it’s possible he could carve out a roster spot in the reorganizing Seahawks receiving corps. The next three preseason games will be huge for Ferguson.
