With under a minute remaining in the first quarter, the Raiders had the ball on Seattle’s 1-yard line. It was fourth and goal and Oakland decided to go for it. Mike Glennon rolled out looking to throw, but Ben Burr-Kirven was on him like a heat-seeking missile. He sacked Glennon back around the 10-yard line and Oakland turned the ball over on downs.

Later in the game, Burr-Kirven went flying after Nathan Peterman on a third and goal play. Peterman was forced to throw the ball through the back of the end zone.

Burr-Kirven had an active night. He led both teams in combined tackles with 12. He also recorded a sack, two tackles for loss, one pass defensed and a quarterback hit. The rookie fifth-round pick will spend most of his time on special teams this year, but he showed some of the reasons why the Seahawks drafted him on Thursday night.

Back at Washington, Burr-Kirven was the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year in 2018, largely because he led the country in combined tackles with 176.

Burr-Kirven wasn’t the only Seahawks linebacker who had a good night though. Undrafted rookie, Jawuan Johnson racked up eight combined tackles, the second-most on the Seahawks. Austin Calitro wasn’t far behind with seven combined tackles. He also posted two tackles for loss and a quarterback hit. Cody Barton also got involved, recording six combined tackles.
