1. Los Angeles Chargers

At 2-4, the Los Angeles Chargers are a major disappointment in 2019. Given the fact that they play in a division with only the Kansas City Chiefs to seriously contend with, LA is a woeful underachiever.

It wasn’t supposed to be this way. The Chargers were 12-4 a year ago and were picked by many to be a dark horse Super Bowl team. The expectations were that such momentum would carry over to this season where a second run was all but inevitable.

The losses this season aren’t necessarily of the devastating variety. Three of their four losses were by seven points while a loss on the road to the Detroit Lions was by only a field goal. However, and this is significant, the last two losses were against two teams who had only one win at the time (the Denver Broncos and the Steelers). Those games were also at home.

It’s fair to wonder if time has simply run out on quarterback Philip Rivers and the Chargers in this current incarnation. They are a team in a city that hasn’t and may not ever embrace them. They are also at the bottom of a fairly pedestrian division.

Next. Week 7: 20 bold predictions to consider. dark

Before getting to the last month of the season, they will play five games, beginning with the Tennessee Titans, Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, Oakland Raiders, and the Chiefs. A record of 2-4 in the middle of October is likely to look significantly worse come the first of December.
