Stud: Jarran Reed, DT

It took the fourth-year defensive tackle some time to round into form after serving a six-game suspension, but Reed flashed his Pro Bowl potential on Monday night.

After recording 10.5 sacks and 24 quarterback hits last season, expectations were high when Reed returned from suspension. However, he recorded no sacks and only one quarterback hit during his first three games this season.

Reed turned things around against the 49ers. The dominant defensive tackle recorded 1.5 sacks and two quarterback hits. He also forced a fumble with under three minutes left in the second quarter. Jadeveon Clowney recovered the ball and ran it in for a touchdown. That was Seattle’s first score of the game.

Dud: Germain Ifedi, RT

After repeatedly torching Ifedi in the duds section last year, I haven’t included the right tackle’s name in these articles often this season. Part of that is because Ifedi has genuinely improved. I wouldn’t go as far as saying he’s a right tackle you’d offer an extension to, but he’s a serviceable player.

However, Ifedi made at least one terrible mistake against the 49ers. Early in the fourth quarter, San Francisco’s pass rush crushed Russell Wilson, and the football somehow ended up in Ifedi’s hands. Instead of going down though, Ifedi tried to run with the ball. The 49ers easily stripped him and DeForest Buckner returned the ball for a touchdown.

Wilson wasn’t credited with the fumble, Ifedi was. It was a confusing play, to say the least, but the big offensive tackle never should’ve run with the ball. Eating the loss of yards would’ve been the right thing to do.
